Tattersall Distillery originated in Minnesota, where a distillery and tasting room existed in NE Minneapolis until November 2024. Their main facility is now in River Falls, a great spot in Pierce County that’s a college town but also easily accessible from the Twin Cities and many western Wisconsin cities.
The building, once a Shopko, weighs in at over 75,000 square feet… it’s huge! Powered heavily by solar, too… the distillery has a 405kW rooftop solar array. They also source all grain and fruit from Minnesota and Wisconsin, with the exception of some cherries and blueberries, some of which come in from western Michigan’s “fruit belt.”
Tattersall was founded by Jon Kreidler and Dan Oskey, who were childhood friends that reconnected over a mutual love of good spirits. Jon was an MBA who analyzed companies and Dan was an award-winning bartender and mixologist. They noted the west coast distillery boom and decided to get ahead of the game in the Midwest, joining forces to open Tattersall Distillery in 2014.
Tattersall opened their River Falls facility in 2021 in a former big box retail store, and this place is BIG. Along with a restaurant and bar, the Market & Tasting Room is a beautiful spot offering samples, flights, or full pours you can enjoy of their wide variety of spirits. They also offer tours, cocktail classes, live music, they host events, and essentially have something for everyone.
The Market & Tasting Room offers flights and samples, shopping for the ones might like to bring home, and of course merch. At the bar they’ll mix you cocktails, let you sample them straight, or try different combinations. The Market offers all of their available spirits in bottles, plus things like bar tools, gift sets, and more. If you’re in the mood for multiple cocktails and some food, their ample-sized Craft Cocktail Bar & Eatery offers a full menu.
So, with all this space, what exactly does Tattersall Distillery craft? Turns out it’s a wide variety of spirits, liqueurs, and more:
Aged Spirits include their Apple Jack Whiskey, aged Wheated Bourbon and aged Rye Whiskey, the Birkie Wi-Ski (which ties into the world-famous Birkie cross-country ski race up in Hayward), Interstate Whiskey, the Tattersall Port Barreled Rye, Toasted Coconut Aquavit, Spiced Rum, Rye Bourbon, Barreled Rum, and an Apple Brandy.
Clear Spirits include their Aronia Gin, Rosso Gin, Tightline Organic Vodka, Gin, and Absinthe.
Liqueurs include their Orange Crema, Grapefruit Crema, Lime Crema, Creme de Fleur, Sour Cherry, Cranberry Liqueur, Fernet. Blueberry, Bitter Orange, and Amaro.
Specialty spirits include Lingonberry Vodka, Cucumber Dill Vodka, Brandy Old Fashioned (yes, pre-mixed), Corpse Reviver #2 (apparently there was a Corpse Reviver #1, this has been re-revived), Cosmo Bianco, Manhattan, Bootlegger, and Salty Dog.
Canned Cocktails at time of writing include their Tattersall Grapefruit Ginger, Blueberry Collins, Whiskey Peach Tea, Key Lime Gin+Tonic, and Watermelon Bootlegger.
Tattersall also offers an app with over 400 recipes in the Apple Store and on Google Play.
You’ll find Tattersall Distillery on the north side of River Falls, right where today’s Highway 35 freeway meets Main Street, where Highway 35 once ran south through town and where Highway 65 joins in. It’s quite visible from any direction!
