They’re slinging craft spirits in Slinger. Altered Spirits Distillery became the first (legal, that we know of) distillery in Washington County when it opened in late 2022 and pours its creations in a historic former Blacksmith Shop that dates back to 1895.
This Nano-Distillery produces a couple of vodkas, produced from corn; their ASG Gin, fully distilled gin from a mash of locally-grown corn and apple cider from a nearby cidery; several whiskeys, including their ASD Bourbon Whiskey, 3+ Year Single Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey, and their 5+ Year Single Barrel Straight Bourbon Whiskey. They also a craft a Rye Whiskey Reserve, Blended Bourbon Whiskey, a Light Whiskey, and their Copper and Cask, which starts as clear gin and is aged for a year in a freshly charred oak barrel.

Why did Altered Spirits locate in downtown Slinger? It’s easy to get the ingredients. Altered Spirits sits just a few miles from an endless supply of locally-grown corn, one of the largest suppliers of malted grain (Briess) is just over an hour away, and numerous fruit suppliers lie within a few miles for both Gin and Brandy production. They strive to source locally wherever possible.
Their Shop offers bottles of their spirits to go with plenty of merch and other whimsical and fun items. It’s right inside the Tasting Room, which also has a view of the distilling equipment on the main floor.
You can visit the Tasting Room, which includes a Store and Barrel Room, right along Highway 144 in Slinger’s downtown, two blocks off Highway 175 and the historic Yellowstone Trail. I-41 comes within a mile and you can access downtown Slinger via the Highway 60 or Highway 144 exits. Slinger Speedway and the Little Switzerland Ski Area are just blocks away, too!
