Westallion Brewing Company, West Allis

Westallion Brewing opened in 2017 in West Allis, a “City of Industry” that has been home to Allis Chalmers, Briggs & Stratton, Quad Graphics, and more. Westallion salutes its home city based on its unique culture blending heavy industry and fostering megastars like Liberace. So that should be a hint that Westallion has an eclectic and unique set of beer offerings – and it does.

You’ll find a theme of “candy” beers at Westallion, including brews incorporating flavors like malted milk and candy corn. A unique combination of malts and flavorings create these blends that you won’t find anywhere else. Beers at Westallion include a Caramel Apple Berliner Weiss; their Candy Corn Cream Ale; Mustang Pale Ale; the Weizenbock; PB (Peanut Butter) Porter; Malted Milk Ball Stout; Lillehammer Gold Hefeweizen; and their Pear Seltzer. They’re available as 5 oz. taps (included in flights), 13 oz. servings, and growlers and other sizes designed “to go.”

The Tap Room at Westallion includes the bar and table seating, along with games and other activities to complement the beer tasting. Signs adorn the walls showcasing West Allis’ history, and many of its featured beers.

The brewery and tap room isn’t something most people just happen to drive by; it’s tucked in an out-of-the-way spot on 72nd Street in West Allis, across from a major rail line in the area but about half a mile south of Highway 59, which serves as Greenfield Avenue and the main downtown strip through West Allis. Just head south on 72nd and you’ll find it right before the street ends. It’s within a mile of State Fair Park and the south end of Highway 181, and an easy ride from I-94, and the I-41/894/U.S. 45 bypass on the west side of Milwaukee County. So while the building isn’t easy to just happen upon, it’s still easy to get to.

Sunday 12-6pm (every Saturday from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm, it’s unlimited beer for $10!)
