Copper Crow Distillery is the first Native American-owned distillery in the U.S. Opened in 2018, they’ve already crafted 12 different award-winning spirits in their facility right along Highway 13 & the Lake Superior Scenic Byway on Red Cliff Band lands. They often note the “spirit of Superior” (pun intended) to relate their spirits to the great lake that surrounds the beautiful Bayfield Peninsula.
The distillery for Copper Crow is in the same building as their tasting room. It’s a cozy bar nestled amidst the pines with inside and outside tables – weather permitting. Regardless, you can enjoy one of their craft cocktails, a straight-up sample, or a flight of four of their selections. Your choices include nearly 20 cocktails available using their spirits from a Bloody Mary to a Cran-Mule to a Nor’Easter, which incorporates their Dark Rum. If you’re interested in bringing home a full bottle or two (or more) of their spirits, they’ll happily accommodate you with choices from the shelves that adorn the sides.
One of the fairly unique traits of Copper Crow spirits is how much whey plays a role. They make a whey vodka and a whey gin, something you rarely find anywhere else. It’s part of their plan for sustainability. Plus, it makes for tasty and smooth spirits! They also use wheat for one of their whiskeys – rye in the other – while using locally-grown Bayfield area apples in their Copper Crow Apple Brandy. Copper Crow also crafts an Amaretto, two Rum varieties (dark and spiced), and an Aquavit, which is a Scandinavian concoction incorporating spices like anise, caraway and more, giving it a unique flavor.

You’ll find Copper Crow Distillery right along Highway 13 just west of the big curve at Red Cliff, less than 5 miles north of Bayfield.
