Old World Wisconsin, the 1870s-era crossroads village and ethnic farmsteads on 576 acres of wooded hills in the Southern Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest, has gone drive-thru with the Old World Wisconsin Fall Family Fun Drive. This amazing Wisconsin State Historic Site is offering the opportunity for people and families to tour the grounds from the comfort and safety of their vehicles.

The set route offers vignettes that capture the beauty of the landscapes and architecture on the grounds – especially in autumn.
Adding to the fun, an interactive Old World Wisconsin Bingo game will help guide the journey. You’re supposed to remain in your vehicle for most of the tour, but “Instagrammable” opportunities allow you to hop out for photos at select locations. You can also munch on “Fall Flavor Samplers,” filled with tastes of fall like apple cider donuts, landjaeger sausages, and pumpkin cookies, which are available for pre-order that you can then pick up at The Creamery to enjoy during the drive.
The cost for this drive-thru is $20 per vehicle; the optional Fall Flavor Samplers are also $20 and should feed two easily.

The 28th annual Exeland Trout Festival, sponsored by the Exeland Rod & Gun Club, will be held over Labor Day weekend, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, September 4, 5 & 6, 2020. A $3 Trout Fest button gets you admission to get on the Sports Center grounds, and the button is good for all three days. This year’s festival motto is “Make your day a keeper!”
Festivities begin Friday at the Sports Center at 5:00 p.m. A trout fish sandwich & chips basket will be the night’s specialty at Rod’s Bar & Grill. You can sign up for the cribbage tournament, which begins at 5:00 pm (play begins at 5:30 registration fee of $10 per team.) The men’s 8-team double elimination softball tournament also starts with games at 5:45 & 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to play on the Bean Bag court during the evening. Presentation of the Medallion Hunt winner is at 7:00 p.m. DJ music will be played throughout the activities.
At 7:30 pm, Chris Kroeze performs. The former star on The Voice is from nearby and will put on a terrific show with great music! Fans are urged to bring a lawn chair.
Appropriately, Saturday’s events start with a trout fishing contest. Registration is on Main Street. The contest begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 11:30 a.m. Entry fee is proof of a festival button. Contest is for brook trout only. Trophies will be awarded to the top three fish. The three winners of the contest will be invited to ride on the Exeland Rod & Gun Club float in Sunday’s parade. Once again, the trout fishing in the Exeland area this year has been unbelievable!
The Dave Lindau Memorial pancake breakfast will be from 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. inside the Exeland Rod & Gun Clubhouse located at the Sports Center.
Main Street will be busy on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. Rummage sales, craft sales, garage sales, and a bake sale will be going on. If you have a craft booth or other items to sell, just show up, find a spot on the street, and start selling. There is no fee to vendors.
It’s a bike rider’s paradise! This will be the fourth year of the Trout Fest off road bike ride. A 27 mile loop through some of the most beautiful country northern Wisconsin has to offer. All ages are welcome but you should be in good physical shape as it’s a very challenging route. Registration is at 9:00 a.m. on Main Street in front of Superior Choice Credit Union and the ride will begin at 10:00 a.m. Cost is a Trout Fest button. A meal coupon will be presented to all participants after the ride to be redeemed at the Sports Center.
Follow the many sporting events taking place at the Sports Center. Enjoy watching the softball tourney (10 a.m. start) & volleyball tourney (11 a.m. start).
The horseshoe court will be open all day for everyone to enjoy and compete.
The 32-team co-ed Bean Bag Toss tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. 100% payback. Top 6 places will receive cash. Entry fee for the 2-person team is $20.
Inflatable games will be scattered on the grounds to entertain the kid’s. Enough fun to entertain them all day. A wrist band needs to be purchased to get into the games.
Nobody should go hungry. Stop at one of the Rod & Gun Club’s concession areas or pay the food vendors a visit. There’s a lot of good food everywhere.
At noon in the pavilion listen to the music of the “Bare Bones” of Rice Lake, formerly known as the Porch Dogs. 4 hours of great music.
The Texas Hold’em Tourney has been cancelled year but will return next year
At 4:30 p.m. a new Trout Festival queen will be crowned. Seven beautiful girls are competing for this year’s prestigious title. Last year’s queen Grace Zimmer will pass her crown onto the new winner. One of the 16 little gals competing for the Little Princess title will also be crowned at this time.
At 5:30 p.m. the Exeland Rod & Gun Club will make a little boy and girl happy when they draw to give away two free bikes and fishing poles.
Saturday concludes with a street dance at the Sports Center pavilion from 8:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Music will be provided by “The G Men”. The former Exeland band is reuniting for the first time in 30 years. Look for a fun night!
Sunday’s events continue in the morning at 7:30 a.m. with the pancake breakfast at the Rod & Gun Clubhouse located at the Sports Center. Blueberry pancakes are the specialty. Breakfast concludes at 10:30 a.m.
At high noon the “Joe Trcka Memorial Parade” with 75 units will move down Main Street. One of the best small town parades in the area with lots of candy being tossed out to the kids. If you haven’t registered your unit yet and would like to be in the parade, just show up at Swan Creek Park between 11 – 11:30 a.m. This year’s grand marshals are Neal & Marna Halberg, longtime Exeland residents who are very active in all community events.
After the parade, it’s back to the Sports Center to be part of the many events still going on. Watch the finals of all the sporting events. Once again, the kids can enjoy the inflatable games that are on the ground.
At 1:00 p.m. a delicious “chicken dinner” will be available at the new food shelter. Plus, a lot of other good food will be available all day long in and around the pavilion.
Cow Pie Bingo will take place south of the softball field shortly after the parade. $10 per square to win cash! Whichever one of the hundred spot the calf decides to crap on will determine the winner. Advance tickets are now being sold at local businesses. Event is compliments of North Star Acres Farm of Exeland.
At 2:00 p.m. the Jump River Valley Mow Masters lawn mower races will take place at the Club’s race track located southwest of the pavilion. An exciting & must see event.
If you want to stay near the pavilion and enjoy good food and cold beverages you can listen to the music of the popular “Man 2 Man” band. Denny Goin and his son will perform from 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
At 5:30 p.m. in the pavilion, all of the drawings will be held for the raffle prizes. The $100 cash raffle, Special 28th Anniversary raffle, the 4-wheeler, small cash prizes and a deer rifle will go to the lucky winners who have purchased raffle tickets. Two more kid’s bikes will also be given away.

Prairie du Sac and Sauk City, collectively known as Sauk Prairie, is the home of Bald Eagle Watching Days along the Wisconsin River. Bald eagles naturally flock to Prairie du Sac every winter to fish the river’s open waters. Check out Birds of Prey shows, an eagle release, guided bus tours, Native American legends, aerial antics, and family activities at this free, family-friendly event Friday, January 17th and Saturday, January 18th.
For winter survival, eagles need open water for fishing, undeveloped shoreline with large trees for perching, and sheltered valleys for night-time roosting. Eagle watching is best during the morning when the birds are most active fishing and are frequently seen perching in trees along the river. Spotting scopes are available for your use at Ferry Bluff Eagle Council’s Overlook in Prairie du Sac.
Marge from REGIS (the Raptor Education Group Inc.) will be releasing up to 3 eagles, including one “magnificent” adult, starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Eagle release is held at VFW Park in Prairie du Sac.
Check out this video about the event from last year:
Prairie du Sac and neighboring Sauk City are often combined to be called “Sauk Prairie.” These two towns not only birthed Culver’s restaurants and host bald eagles in winter, they have a variety of great shops, galleries, restaurants, bars, and more. Vintage Brewing recently opened a satellite brewery in Sauk City and the riverfront views are fantastic across both towns. Highways 60 and 78 run through the heart of each downtown, while U.S. 12 provides high-speed access on the west side to Madison and Wisconsin Dells. Highway 188, on the other side of the river, offers access to the Wollersheim Winery & Distillery. You can truly make this an awesome road trip day or weekend!

Boerner Botanical Gardens hosts “China Lights: Panda Mania” and the Chinese Lantern Festival, September 13- October 27, 2019!
China Lights brings stunning illuminated sculptures to select venues around the world. Now, it floats into Milwaukee for an after-sundown celebration of Asian life and culture. The 9-acre Gardens transform into a magical paradise of enchanting illuminated displays. Dragons, glowing pagodas and iridescent pinwheels add color, vibrancy, and excitement.
Check out a backstage tour of the lanterns and participate in the nightly parade. Or simply enjoy wandering through the thrilling spectacle, which includes live performances of music, juggling and other arts. Enjoy a variety of Asian and Western cuisine from numerous local vendors, celebrate Asian culture with entertainment and live performances and a bustling marketplace. The entertainment ramps up Tuesdays through Sundays, 5:30pm-10pm – China Lights is closed Mondays.
Admission includes a link to the official festival tour mobile guide, which will provide fascinating insight about the wonders all around you as you stroll with your cell phone. Parking is free for China Lights; simply follow the signs along 92nd Street – one mile east of U.S. 45/Highway 100 – to find the lots.
Tickets can be purchased at the on-site box office during the event, through the event website at ChinaLights.org or they may be purchased at various county park locations. Tickets are good for any night of the current season that the event is open. No reciprocal garden admissions or Friends of Boerner Botanical Garden Memberships are valid during the China Lights special event. There is no refund due to rain, power outages, and/or other unforeseen conditions. In the unlikely event of a weather caused cancellation, patrons on the grounds will be given rain checks for a subsequent show.
Check their Facebook page for updates. You can get to Boerner Botanical Gardens just off U.S. 45/Highway 100 and Highway 24 via Whitnall Park in Hales Corners. I-41/894 & I-43 are also close by!

Catalano Square in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward hosts the Under One Moon Festival, a three-day pop-up festival that celebrates everything lunar.
Its centerpiece is the Museum of the Moon, a 23-foot diameter, inflatable art installation of the lunar surface by Luke Jerram that rises over Catalano Square all weekend. The lunar celebration, going on night and day, includes moon songs, chalk art, original dance, lectures from leading space experts and much more. The festival is produced under the direction of Black Box Fund, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that supports public art, music and performances that inspire and educate.
The remarkable detail of the Moon installation, which suspends from a crane and hangs over the Catalano Square Fountain, is the centerpiece. It shines at night and serves as a beacon for the festival. You’ll find it right along Highway 32 as you drive through Milwaukee’s Third Ward, along Milwaukee and Young Streets, also bounded by Erie and Menomonee Streets.

Before you go through, videos are available to help illustrate what you’re about to witness. An audio tour is also available to accompany you as you go through, helping to illustrate all of this information. Also be aware that earthquakes might erupt on your tour, dinosaurs might get into battles, and you might have to step up and help save a baby dinosaur! All COVID-safe, by the way.

Old World Wisconsin Fall Family Fun Drive
Old World Wisconsin, the 1870s-era crossroads village and ethnic farmsteads on 576 acres of wooded hills in the Southern Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest, has gone drive-thru with the Old World Wisconsin Fall Family Fun Drive. This amazing Wisconsin State Historic Site is offering the opportunity for people and families to tour the grounds from the comfort and safety of their vehicles.
Enjoy the fall colors, historic sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of Old World Wisconsin on this scenic, 45-minute drive tour of the grounds.

Bacon & Brews Fest combines running, walking, bacon, and beer along the shores of Lake Michigan in Oak Creek’s Lake Vista Park on Saturday, September 5th, 2020. It begins with a 5K run and walk, which you can participate in in person along a twisty, turny course in the park, or participate in virtually from wherever you are. Why the 5th of September? All participants will receive a finishers medal, Special Swag, a T-shirt, and a bacon/beer filled lunch. The party will include social distancing measures, and masks will be provided if participants don’t have one. Exeland Trout Festival
Join the fun and help Exeland celebrate the 28th annual Exeland Trout Festival! Follow State Highway 48 to get to Exeland, east of Rice Lake off U.S. 53 or just a mile or so west of Highway 40 in Sawyer County. Truly a fun North Woods getaway event!

Bald Eagle Watching Days

China Lights: Panda Mania at Boerner Botanical Gardens

Under One Moon Festival, Milwaukee
Under One Moon Festival Address:
Catalano Square
100 Block of N. Broadway
Milwaukee, WI 53202
