Topsy Turvy Brewery, inside a former church in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Topsy Turvy Brewery

Lake Geneva has its old First Baptist Church, and a new brewery – and they’re in the same place! Topsy Turvy Brewery started up in July 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. By October, their Tap Room opened – for the first few months, people were able to enjoy beers on the patio out front. The church complex, which houses several small shops for years, now houses the brewery and tap room, along with the Lake Geneva Culinary School, which means creative food pairings are occasionally in the offing.

Why the name “Topsy Turvy”? It’s from a 16th century poem, the term coined as another way of saying “upside down” – a feature they included in their logo. It’s one reason their slogan is “Flippin’ Good Beer!” And let’s face it, you’ll get topsy turvy if you have too many (always be responsible, of course, when you’re checking out craft breweries on a State Trunk Tour road trip!)

Topsy Turvy generally has 21 taps ready at a given time; 16 theirs, five are guest brews from other Wisconsin craft breweries. Flights are $10 for four 4-oz. samples. For food, they have hot pretzels and popcorn but on occasion the culinary school across the hall may have some creative concoctions.
