Along Highway 22 in downtown Shawano, things get stubborn. Inside a former movie and playhouse constructed in 1910, Stubborn Brothers Brewery got things going in June 2020 – yes, right in the middle of the pandemic – and today they brew up over two dozen beers and ciders across a multitude of styles.
The beers at Stubborn Brothers are brewed right inside the building, a very cool former performance venue complete with the stage and the former orchestra pit intact. A large wall of windows lets you see the tanks, fermenters, and everything else in action. The bar is fairly long, with a beautiful barback. Seating is available in the airy, spacious main level and up on a mezzanine. You can even sit in the former orchestra pit; sometimes musical and other performers showcase their talents on stage.
Stubborn Brothers brews around two dozen beers on-site, about three-quarters of which rotate on a regular basis. Some of the ones we tried include:
- Citra Boy Pale Blonde
- Shawano Club Pilsner
- Lulu Barley Wine
- The Brothers Pale Ale
- West Coast IPA
- Overhyped Too DDH
- Overhyped Lazy IPA
- Door County Cherry Wheat
- Door County Cherry Sour
- Bosbes Nouveau Blueberry Sour
- Boilermaker PB Whiskey Porter
- Wolf River Porter
- Night Moves Coffee Porter
- Coco Loco Coconut Porter
- Morning Glory Coffee Stout
- Wild Thing Raspberry Wheat
- Two Pistons Amber Ale
Along with the beers they brew, you can enjoy Bloody Marys, specialty craft cocktails and everything that goes along with a full bar.
Stubborn Brothers offers a full menu with burgers and sandwiches, apps, soups, salads, and desserts, plus a fish fry and other seafood on Fridays. They get creative, too!
You’ll find Stubborn Brothers Brewery right along Highway 22/Main Street, about two miles north of the Highway 29 freeway and several blocks south of the Business 29/Highway 47/Highway 55 (street).
