Barrel 41 Brewing Company, Neenah

Neenah really is over a barrel now with local brews: right along the historic U.S. 41 route through the city is Barrel 41 Brewing Company. Located in a strip mall along Commercial Street, Barrel 41 launched in 2018 and secured the title of “Wisconsin’s Favorite Brewery” in the Travel Wisconsin Brewdown in 2020. Along with using an I-41 in their logo – which as road geeks we love – they have 16 beers on tap, most of which are theirs brewed in-house, along with select guest brews. They use a 7 BBL system for brewing and offer cans for sale as well, all under the direction of the Head Brewer, Nathan Sharpless. They focus on edgier styles of traditional beers.

Some of Barrel 41’s offerings include their White Mustang, a Belgian style Saison; Live Laugh Lavender, a Farmhouse Saison brewed by wildflower honey and lavender from Door County; Dead Trends, a Pale Ale; Mountain House Pale Wheat Ale; Space Winnebago, a New England IPA named after the lake bordering Neenah; the “And Also Too As Well” (how do they come up with these names??) New England IPA; Sherbert & Ernie Milkshake IPA; Easy Rider Double IPA; Stoob’s Bloobs Milkshake IPA; Praise Gourd Pumpkin Ale; an Oktoberfest Marzen; Dullmore Belgian Quad; Coffee Barrel Brown Ale; Cinnamon Roll Crunch Milk Porter; Cookie Dough Spoon Oatmeal Stout; and Lancelide Imperial Brown Ale.

Some limited releases are available here and there. At our last check, they offered a Rye Whiskey Cherry Stout, which we assume involved barrels.

Hungry? They make tacos that pair well with their beers along with chips and salsa and nachos. Flavors range from Korean with kimchi to Buffalo Chicken, BBQ Sweet Potato, and Pork Luau, which includes a nice pineapple salsa.

You’ll find Barrel 41 Brewing Company right along Commercial Street in Neenah, just south of where Highway 114 meets up with it. I-41 is only two miles away via the Highway 114 exit. It’s part of a nice brewery tour you can make from Oshkosh on up to Appleton – right in the midst of it all!
