Do you believe in magic as much as you believe in beer? Then Wizard Works Brewing is for you.
Opened up in April of 2020 in the former Broken Bat Brewing space (they relocated nearby) Wizard Works is the brainchild of Chris Ivanovich, a brewer for over 35 years and a performing magician for over 40. Along with his variety of beers – and not just traditional sports, but slightly unconventional competitions like Marble Racing on TV – expect some magic tricks to come your way. Chris will wow people, often with tricks involving playing cards and numerous jokes. These aren’t tricks you can easily figure out, either; we’re still trying to figure out how he pulled off some of those tricks. It’s definitely designed to be a fun atmosphere, cozied up in the lower level of this 19th century brick building in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.
Wizard Works Brewery features potions with magic-themed names like:
- Box Jumper Blonde Ale
- First Rabbit (out of a hat?) Porter
- Wizard’s Wrath Strong Ale
- Hofzinser Hefeweizen
- Magic Words IPA
- Schatze! Oktoberfest Märzen
- The Escape, a Berliner Weisse Sour; and
- Golden Butterfly Passion Fruit Sour
Wizard Works also recently pulled a new seltzer out of their hats, a blackberry flavored concoction called Zig Zag Lady (yes, named after the lady in magic you saw into pieces not but really.)
Other than small bags of chips, they do not serve food but you’re welcome to bring some in from area restaurants if you’d like to be creative with potential pairings. Maybe you can create a magical combination of your own!

You’ll find Wizard Works on Buffalo Street between Water Street and Broadway. I-794 and Highway 32 are both a block or two to the north, and east; it’s two blocks south of downtown and a block directly south of the Milwaukee Public Market.
