Using a Midwest phrase with a variety of meanings despite it essentially being an utterance, the Ope! Brewing Company has become a landmark in West Allis rather quickly. On top of a nice variety of craft brews and seltzers, they’re a center in the community for live music, indoor and outdoor games, food truck fare, and events including volleyball, cornhole, and indoor disc golf leagues. With a large indoor space that opens to outdoor spaces around it, Ope! has different vibes in different seasons. The beer vibes are good year ’round.
Ope! Brewing Company launched in 2021 in a space that once hosted factories in West Allis. The entire area has been under redevelopment for years. The legendary Allis-Chalmers Corporation, which manufactured machinery that played key roles in the construction of the Panama Canal, the Interstate System, and equipment for both World Wars, was just a few blocks to the north by Greenfield Avenue. The area where Ope! Brewing sits once held companies that supplied Allis-Chalmers but had been cleared and awaited a new purpose. Ope! made the purpose brewing – a longtime raison d’etre in the Milwaukee area – and created a popular space for West Allis residents and visitors alike.

Ope! has snacks along with their beers and sours; food trucks provide culinary variety. For non-drinkers, Ope! offers kombucha, soda pop (Coke products), Rishi sparkling tea, Dang! Rootbeer, Italian soda, and water. And as they say: West Allis has some of the best tap water in the world, try it!

You’ll find Ope! Brewing along National Avenue in West Allis between 70th Street (exit #307 off I-94) and its junction to the east with Highway 59/Greenfield Avenue. It’s a little over a mile south of I-94 and a little over a mile east of Highway 181 where it ends at Wisconsin State Fair Park. It’s also about 3 miles west and southwest of Highway 175 and American Family Field. You can also follow the National Avenue exit northeast from I-41/894/U.S. 45 for about 3.5 miles.
