DESCRIPTION:The St. Patrick’s Day Parade Milwaukee winds through downtown from noon until about 1:30pm on Saturday\, March 9th!  It’s the 53rd Annual Shamrock Club of Wisconsin St. Patrick’s Day Parade with live Irish music\, dance\, food\, beverages and more all afternoon. We’re pretty sure you can find corned beef\, for example… \n*** STT Tidbit: Milwaukee’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade dates back to 1843; it’s the 6th oldest such parade in the nation. **\nCheck out one of the best St Patrick’s Day Parades in the country and the grandest parade in Wisconsin. The Parade will feature 140+ units and includes local politicians and celebrities\, floats\, bagpipe and marching bands and Irish and Celtic organizations. It’s the perfect event for the whole family\, because on St. Patrick’s Day\, everyone is Irish! \nBefore the parade\, there’s an 8:30am mass at St. Patrick’s Church at 723 W. Washington Street just south of downtown. After the parade\, the Shamrock Club Post-Parade Party will take place at the Irish Cultural & Heritage Center at 2133 W. Wisconsin Avenue\, just west of downtown and the Marquette University campus. It’s Milwaukee’s Largest Family Parade Day Party and features four stages of entertainment. There’s a $2 admission fee ($10 family maximum) and children 10 and younger are free. There will be plenty of food and beverages too! \nThe parade itself starts at noon on 3rd and Wisconsin and finishes at Water and Highland. It will actually go over portions of U.S. 18 and Highway 32 in the city. Educational Birding programs will also be held Friday evening – at local hotels and are open to the public at no charge. A large artesian well provides open water. Eagles will perch in trees along the slough. Check the trees along the Mississippi River shore near and across from Lawler Park on St. Feriole Island is another location of eagle activity. The park is west and north of the Blackhawk Avenue bridge. A mounted bird scope for viewing is available (located in back of building) at the Wisconsin Welcome Center/Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce building\, 211 S. Main. Enroute to Prairie du Chien watch for eagles soaring or perching in trees in open field areas looking for food. \nYou can spend the day or several days viewing eagles. You will need appropriate clothing and binoculars. A spotting scope is nice too. Eagle watching begins in the morning about an hour after sunrise. The birds are most active from then until about 3:00PM\, feeding in open water areas. Birds can be seen soaring\, perching in riverside trees\, and sitting on the ice. By late afternoon the birds will be heading for the roost and will not be active unless you are on a flight path to the roost. \nThe best places to see eagles in the area include the Gordon’s Bay boat landing and Lock and Dam #9\, 10 miles north of Prairie du Chien. The boat landing is cleared of snow so eagle watchers can simply park near the ramp facing slightly upstream. Watch for eagles in the big cottonwoods along the Wisconsin shoreline\, across the river in trees along the Iowa shoreline\, and soaring overhead or over the open water caused by flowing water from the dam. Staying in your vehicle will provide you the best viewing as soaring eagles have been known to come very close to the boat landing with their feeding activity. DESCRIPTION:Minocqua will again beat as the heart and soul of the Wisconsin craft beer industry once again at the 21st Annual Ice Cold Beer Fest will be held in downtown Minocqua\, Saturday\, February 9\, 2019. Beer\, food and live music all available under a heated big top tent on the Island of Minocqua. Last year\, fest goers were able to sample more than 250 different craft beers that included breweries from Wisconsin\, Minnesota\, Michigan and Illinois. All proceeds from the Ice Cold Beer Fest benefit their local Dr. Kate Hospice. \nPREMIER TASTING — Only 200 Premier Tasting Tickets will be sold. This event delegates those ticket holders to a prime sampling from noon to 1 p.m.\, to include beers not-to-be released to the general admission crowd. Private bathrooms are also available to these ticket holders ONLY. Included in the price is an individually number commemorative tasting glass along with prime tasting of food to include shrimp\, steak and desserts. SUMMARY:Bloomer Rope Jump Contest - World Championship
DESCRIPTION:Bloomer’s rope jumping boom began in 1960 when a former coach named Wally Mohrman became the physical education teacher in the schools. Knowing the value of the exercise\, he decided to stir some interest with a contest. The emphasis was on speed jumping: how many times a student could whip a rope under his feet in a given period. \nEach year interest grew. Champion jumpers emerged\, and records were established to shoot at. The finals are held each year on the last Saturday in January. Each year\, students from Grades 1 through 8 train hard and come to Bloomer to compete. \nTo add to the contest\, Mohrman formed a group called the “Swinging Safari”. Its girls do precision rope jumping routines to various types types of music. Their appearances highlight the rope jump event. \nBloomer has made itself into America’s swingingest town. Bumper stickers\, t-shirts\, and signs at the city limits all proclaim their fame. Many other schools are sponsoring speed jumping contests and sending their winners to the big world championship in Bloomer. Each year the Bloomer contest is bigger and better with records constantly being challenged. \n\n\n\n \n2019 Bloomer Speed Rope Jump Contest Schedule:\nSaturday January 26\, 2018 \nRegistration will begin for each division at 8 a.m. at Bloomer Senior High School. All entrants must be registered by 9:30 am. \nPreliminaries will begin promptly at 10 am. We will take a break\nbetween each division. Preliminaries should be completed by approximately 2 pm. \nThe Hospitality Room will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 pm. Coffee\, pop\, chips and sandwiches will be served at very reasonable prices. \nFinals will start at 3 pm with the finals competition lasting an estimate of 2 hours. \nAll finalists are asked to be back by 2:30pm for the Finals Competition. \nBloomer is along Highway 40\, right by Highway 64 and the U.S. 53 freeway just a short distance north of Chippewa Falls. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, January 5th and/or February 2nd\, 2019\, spend a night with family and friends at Blue Mound\, the highest point in southern Wisconsin. From high atop\, they welcome 2019 with the Blue Mound Candlelight Ski\, Hike\, and Snowshoe event hosted by the Friends of Blue Mound State Park. \nA 1 and 2-mile candlelit\, wooded loop will be available to ski and a separate 0.75-mile candlelit wooded trail will be available for hikers\, snowshoers and leashed pets. Warm up with free hot drinks inside the heated shelter. Hot refreshments\, baked goods and shirts will be available for sale. Enjoy the bonfire and free marshmallows for roasting. Guided hikes through the illuminated woods with the park Naturalist will be held at 6 and 7 p.m. The only cost for this fun-filled family event is a daily or annual park sticker\, which may be purchased upon entry to the park. DESCRIPTION:East Troy’s classic electric railroad runs between East Troy and Mukwonago\, once part of a much longer interurban line. You can enjoy train rides much of the year\, but during the holidays the East Troy Christmas Train makes it extra festive. \nThe East Troy Christmas Train takes you from the East Troy Depot – which also holds a cool little train museum – to Santa’s workshop located at the Elegant Farmer just outside Mukwonago\, pretty much on the Walworth-Waukesha County border along County ES… once the main road (as Highway 15) between Beloit and Milwaukee before I-43 was built. You’ll recognize the “smiley face” on the barn! \nAt the Elegant Farmer\, long known for their great pie and bakery\, children can visit Santa and get a photo\, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies\, and more. The total experience lasts about two hours\, including the rides back and forth and an hour at The Elegant Farmer. Boarding is only done at the East Troy Depot and they do recommend advance reservations. Find out more on reserving a space here. \nAdult tickets run $18.50. Tickets for Children (3-14) are $16.00\, Toddlers (2 and under) are $8.00. Children ages 3 and up receive a gift. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you bring a non-perishable food item with each member of your party\, you’ll receive a 10% discount on tickets at the Depot. All donated items will benefit the East Troy Food Pantry. Transforming the city into a center of Christmas spirit\, the 9th annual Living Windows evening features store windows coming to life. This year’s theme: “All I Want for Christmas Is…” \nAs in years past\, the evening’s festivities will include caroling by some of the local churches\, refreshments\, fire barrels to warm you\, and horse-driven wagon rides. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Cornerstone Building to greet the children from 6:30pm-8pm.
