SUMMARY:Burlington Ice Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Burlington Ice Festival offers art\, fun\, and plenty of ice Saturday\, December 8th\, 2018! Admire at least 15 ice sculptures carved on-site before your very eyes. \nEach sculpture is carved from a 300-pound block of ice that has been frozen in a special process to ensure that the blocks are crystal clear. Live sculpture carving\, a favorite viewing attraction\, showcases ice carvers using hand tools transforming massive blocks of ice into an array of giant masterpieces. Ice carving begins around 10am Saturday\, with judging for prizes around 4:30pm. That gives you much of the day to watch them construct these masterpieces\, and you can continue to admire them until – well – Mother Nature says you can’t! When you’re not viewing the artists in action\, take a ride in a horse-drawn wagon\, see a reindeer\, or visit Santa Claus! There’s no cost to attend. \nWhile in Burlington\, check out the Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum\, the Burlington Farmers’ Market\, the Burlington Historical Museum\, the Malt House Theatre & the Haylofters\, the Chocolate Experience Museum\, or grab a burger at the legendary Fred’s\, right on the downtown corner. \nBurlington Ice Festival Address:\n355 N. SUMMARY:Winter Art Fair Off the Square
DESCRIPTION:Madison hosts its annual Winter Art Fair off the Square on Saturday\, November 10th and Sunday\, November 11th at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. This 29th annual Winter Art Fair Off the Square will feature 135 Wisconsin artists and craftspeople as well as thousands of their works. \nVisitors will see paintings\, sculptures\, jewelry\, handbags\, mosaics\, ceramics\, clothing\, musical instruments\, photography\, mixed media\, woodwork\, graphics\, fiber arts\, and glasswork –all for sale. Every work has been created by the juried artists and craftspeople who will be present in their booths. The Fair is produced by the Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople\, Inc.\, a group of artists dedicated to producing art fairs to benefit fellow artists. The Winter Fair Off the Square also offers live music\, a silent auction\, a young collectors corner\, a booth which benefits Badger Childhood Cancer\, and good food. Admission is $5. \nThere is a Young Collectors’ Corner where only children under twelve are admitted to purchase artwork of their choosing. Much of the art is the same as in exhibitors’ booths but at a much reduced price. See our WAAC Winter Art Fair Off the Square Gallery for photos of the fair. \nMusical entertainment ranges from Johnny Chimes to Bluegrass\, classical to the Madison Area Ukelele Initiative\, with special performances by Madison Suzuki Strings students and advanced piano students of area piano teachers. \nThe Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople will be hosting another fundraiser for Badger Childhood Cancer Network during the Winter Art Fair Off the Square. The event gives patrons the opportunity to choose gift beads for kids and teens with cancer or blood disorders. These “WOW” beads – handmade by local artists – are part of the BCCN Hero Beads program. \nHero Beads let patients commemorate their personal treatment journey in the form of a simple\, visible medical record. They initially receive a cord with letter beads that spell out their first name\, plus a Diagnosis bead. Every time a young person has a procedure or passes a particular milestone\, a member of the medical team can give him or her a special bead to add to the cord(s) of beads. Over time\, Hero Beads provide a symbol of each patient’s personal journey\, a touchable testament to strength and endurance. \nFor a donation of $5 patrons will be able to choose a gift for the children from over a thousand beautiful\, handmade glass beads. The beads will be distributed among the patients\, and the monetary proceeds go to the children’s families in the form of gas cards and other sundry items they require. BCCN relies solely on the community for financial support. We encourage everyone to attend and show their support for Wisconsin artists and the Badger Children’s Cancer Network this November. \nYou can reach Monona Terrace via US 151\, using John Nolen Drive from the south\, including the Beltline (US 12/18) and nearby main routes like US 14 and US 51\, or from the north via East Washington Avenue off I-39/90/94\, Highway 30\, or Highway 113. \nArt Fair off the Square Address:\nMonona Terrace and Community Center\n1 John Nolen Drive\nMadison\, WI 53703\n(608) 204-9129\nWebsite

SUMMARY:US Australian Football National Championships
DESCRIPTION:Ready for some Footy?? That’s the nickname for Australian Rules Football\, and the US wing of the Aussie League is bringing the Australian Football National Championships to Racine County! \nThis is the world’s largest Australian football tournament\, taking place October 13-14\, 2018 at the Soccer Complex of Racine (SCoRe) in Franksville\, just northwest of Racine proper. \nAustralian Football (nicknamed “Footy”) has some significant differences with American Football. The field is oval-shaped and about twice the length of an American football field. Teams of 18 players can move the ball using any parts of their bodies. They’re not wearing the football pads and uniforms that American football players do – they dress like soccer or rugby players. Any player can score by kicking\, hitting\, or running the ball through the goal. Aussie Football games consist of four 20-minute quarters\, time continues to roll and more time is “added on” if play is delayed – similar to soccer – and players can move freely around the field and sub in or out at any time. Oh\, and a player advancing the ball must bounce the ball or touch it to the ground every 15 meters. So in a sense\, there’s a basketball move involved in this too. Get more details on Australian Rules Football here. \nThe USAFL (United States Australian Football League) governs the sports in the US and sanctions men’s and women’s competitions among over 35 clubs across the country\, with over 2\,000 players participating. About a dozen of these teams have advanced to play in this championship tournament in Racine County; teams from Houston\, Denver\, Minneapolis-St. Paul and more will be descending here to compete for it all. \nMatches start at 9am Saturday\, October 13th; finals are scheduled to begin around 5:30pm. Spectator admission is FREE! \nYou’ll find the SCoRe complex just off County K between I-41/94 and Highway 38 in Franksville. It’s about two miles north of Highway 20. \nAustralian Football National Championships Address:\nSoccer Complex of Racine (SCoRe)\n9509 Dunkelow Road\nFranksville\, WI 53126\n(262) 884-6400\nWebsite \n

SUMMARY:Milwaukee Oktoberfest
DESCRIPTION:Milwaukee is one of the most Germanic cities in the U.S.\, so why wouldn’t it host one of the oldest Bavarian Oktoberfests in the Midwest? And this year\, Milwaukee Oktoberfest is the FIRST event held on the Plaza of the new Fiserv Forum (or “fiserv.forum\,” stylized) October 5-7\, 2018! \nThe Milwaukee Oktoberfest has moved toward the new Fiserv Forum so you can experience the new plaza area. It’s still sponsored by Spaten. The fun includes traditional German brass bands\, sing-alongs and spontaneous dancing for everyone. Delicious and authentic German food is available\, from huge pretzels and brats to a variety of specialties from the Levy Restaurant Group. Of course there’s plenty of beer/bier on tap imported and domestic – as well as wine\, soft drinks and\, yes\, even coffee. \nHey\, the mustard is healthy… there’s turmeric in it.\nCheck out live music from the Mike Schneider Band\, the Klaberheads\, the Jeff Winard Band\, Austrian Express\, Polka Floyd\, the Jay Fox Band\, and Blaskapelle. Also check out the Wiener Dog Show\, a Bags Tournament\, the Miss Oktoberfest Competition\, a Brat-Eating Contest\, the Stein Hoisting Competition\, and more. \nThe Milwaukee Brat House will host the Official After Party each night of the 9th annual Milwaukee Oktoberfest! \nDas Boot Bar Tour festivities on Saturday extend Oktoberfest up along Old World Third Street.\nDon’t forget the “Das Boot Bar Tour” on Saturday\, hosted on Old World Third Street from noon-6pm. Each bar will decorate with a German theme and participants will have the chance to try a different Oktoberfest Beer\, essentially making it a bar tour and beer festival combined. Along with the Bar Tour\, there will of course be liter size Das Boots for each person on the tour. These will allow you to receive drink specials during the tour and only during the tour. Attendees are more than welcome to bring their boots back to refill at the Main Event! \nIt’s all based in downtown Milwaukee\, at the plaza in front of the new Fiserv Forum\, near State Street (U.S. 18)\, 6th Street/McKinley Avenue (Highway 145) Old World 3rd Street and the Milwaukee River. I-43/94\, I-794\, and Highway 32 also bring you close. Prosit! \nMilwaukee Oktoberfest Address:\nThe Plaza in front of the Fiserv Forum\, as well as on adjacent blocks (Old World Third Street\, State Street\, Highland Avenue)\n901 N. 4th Street (Vel Phillips Avenue)\nMilwaukee\, WI 53202\nWebsite
