DESCRIPTION:Before you can have the Birkie\, you have to have a Pre-Birkie\, right? Well\, here it is\, on Saturday\, February 9\, 2019\, right in Hayward. \nThe Hayward Lions Club hosts this qualifying race for the Birkie and Kortelopet with proceeds going to local community projects of the Hayward Lions Club. This Lions Club Fundraiser and FUN race has no equal when it comes to preparing one mentally and physically for the American Birkebeiner. In other words\, once you have completed the Pre-Birkie you will have the confidence to take on the mother of all XC marathon races\, the American Birkebeiner. \nAnd\, if 16 miles/26 kilometers of those beautiful hills were not enough\, back by popular demand are the 42K skate/classic races! There are four food stations on the 26K course and six on the 42K course\, which are manned by local youth groups who are eager to serve you along your way to the finish at County Highway OO. There\, you’ll find refreshments and their famous doughnuts. \nEvery skier will receive a special Pre-Birkie sweatshirt. SUMMARY:Burlington Jaycees Off the Hook Ice Fishing Derby
DESCRIPTION:Get your ice fishing gear ready!! The Burlington Jaycees are hosting their 8th Annual Off the Hook Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday\, February 9\, 2019 at Fischer Park in Burlington\, WI. With over $5\,000 in prizes and raffles up for grabs\, you can take your chances on raffle prizes in our heated tent\, or compete in the always exciting fishing derby and reel in the largest fish. Fishing competition opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m. Registration\, Beer\, Food\, Coffee\, Restroom Facilities\, Judging and Raffles are all located on the Boat Launch at Fischer Park located Hwy 11 in Burlington. Parking is free in Fischer Park.\nRegistration to the derby is $5.00\, and there will be awards for first place and second place Bass\, Northern and Walleye. All fish must meet legal requirements\, and must be alive to register in the derby which runs from 8am – 1pm. SUMMARY:Bloomer Rope Jump Contest - World Championship
DESCRIPTION:Bloomer’s rope jumping boom began in 1960 when a former coach named Wally Mohrman became the physical education teacher in the schools. Knowing the value of the exercise\, he decided to stir some interest with a contest. The emphasis was on speed jumping: how many times a student could whip a rope under his feet in a given period. \nEach year interest grew. Champion jumpers emerged\, and records were established to shoot at. The finals are held each year on the last Saturday in January. Each year\, students from Grades 1 through 8 train hard and come to Bloomer to compete. \nTo add to the contest\, Mohrman formed a group called the “Swinging Safari”. Its girls do precision rope jumping routines to various types types of music. Their appearances highlight the rope jump event. \nBloomer has made itself into America’s swingingest town. Bumper stickers\, t-shirts\, and signs at the city limits all proclaim their fame. Many other schools are sponsoring speed jumping contests and sending their winners to the big world championship in Bloomer. Each year the Bloomer contest is bigger and better with records constantly being challenged. \n\n\n\n \n2019 Bloomer Speed Rope Jump Contest Schedule:\nSaturday January 26\, 2018 \nRegistration will begin for each division at 8 a.m. at Bloomer Senior High School. All entrants must be registered by 9:30 am. \nPreliminaries will begin promptly at 10 am. We will take a break\nbetween each division. Preliminaries should be completed by approximately 2 pm. \nThe Hospitality Room will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 pm. Coffee\, pop\, chips and sandwiches will be served at very reasonable prices. \nFinals will start at 3 pm with the finals competition lasting an estimate of 2 hours. \nAll finalists are asked to be back by 2:30pm for the Finals Competition. \nBloomer is along Highway 40\, right by Highway 64 and the U.S. 53 freeway just a short distance north of Chippewa Falls. The city’s Blue Line Family Ice Center hosts nationally competing synchronized skating teams performing all day in both exhibition shows and competition for awards and prizes. DESCRIPTION:East Troy’s classic electric railroad runs between East Troy and Mukwonago\, once part of a much longer interurban line. You can enjoy train rides much of the year\, but during the holidays the East Troy Christmas Train makes it extra festive. \nThe East Troy Christmas Train takes you from the East Troy Depot – which also holds a cool little train museum – to Santa’s workshop located at the Elegant Farmer just outside Mukwonago\, pretty much on the Walworth-Waukesha County border along County ES… once the main road (as Highway 15) between Beloit and Milwaukee before I-43 was built. You’ll recognize the “smiley face” on the barn! \nAt the Elegant Farmer\, long known for their great pie and bakery\, children can visit Santa and get a photo\, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies\, and more. The total experience lasts about two hours\, including the rides back and forth and an hour at The Elegant Farmer. Boarding is only done at the East Troy Depot and they do recommend advance reservations. Find out more on reserving a space here. \nAdult tickets run $18.50. Tickets for Children (3-14) are $16.00\, Toddlers (2 and under) are $8.00. Children ages 3 and up receive a gift. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you bring a non-perishable food item with each member of your party\, you’ll receive a 10% discount on tickets at the Depot. All donated items will benefit the East Troy Food Pantry. You can buy the tickets in advance at regular price and receive your discount when you arrive at the East Troy Depot with your donated items. \nTickets may be purchased online in advance\, or at the Depot starting Saturday\, November 24th on Saturdays and Sundays through December 16th. This 29th annual Winter Art Fair Off the Square will feature 135 Wisconsin artists and craftspeople as well as thousands of their works. \nVisitors will see paintings\, sculptures\, jewelry\, handbags\, mosaics\, ceramics\, clothing\, musical instruments\, photography\, mixed media\, woodwork\, graphics\, fiber arts\, and glasswork –all for sale. Every work has been created by the juried artists and craftspeople who will be present in their booths. The Fair is produced by the Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople\, Inc.\, a group of artists dedicated to producing art fairs to benefit fellow artists.The Winter Fair Off the Square also offers live music\, a silent auction\, a young collectors corner\, a booth which benefits Badger Childhood Cancer\, and good food. They initially receive a cord with letter beads that spell out their first name\, plus a Diagnosis bead. Every time a young person has a procedure or passes a particular milestone\, a member of the medical team can give him or her a special bead to add to the cord(s) of beads. Over time\, Hero Beads provide a symbol of each patient’s personal journey\, a touchable testament to strength and endurance. \nFor a donation of $5 patrons will be able to choose a gift for the children from over a thousand beautiful\, handmade glass beads. The beads will be distributed among the patients\, and the monetary proceeds go to the children’s families in the form of gas cards and other sundry items they require. Power Pac Equipment busts out the axes this weekend with Marshfield’s Lumberjack Fall Fest\, happening Saturday\, October 20th. \nLumberjack Fall Fest is definitely a festival for the whole family! To kick off fall\, Power Pac is hosting the Timberworks Lumberjacks\, a high-energy lumberjack show. Feel the rush of adrenaline as competitors race up poles at lightning speed or saw through twelve inches of aspen with the speed of a modern-day chain saw. Then move to the edge of your seat as they show off their fancy footwork while running on logs or throw axes with the precision of a dart board champion. The show includes numerous entertaining demonstrations including: \n• Log rolling\n• Pole climbing races\n• Ax throwing\n• Fast paced log chopping and sawing\n• Chainsaw carving \nTimberworks will perform 3 shows at 11:00\, 1:00 and 3:00 Saturday. DESCRIPTION:Hunting Moon Pow Wow is three days of excitement\, bringing together a host of Native American cultures for a celebration of singing\, drumming and dancing in the heart of downtown Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. \nLong a part of Native culture\, the pow wow is an important social gathering; it’s a chance for Native people to connect with one another\, connect with their vibrant history and traditions\, and to connect with non-Native people through the power\, beauty and pageantry of the event. \nFor over a decade\, Hunting Moon Pow Wow has called Milwaukee home.
