DESCRIPTION:Milwaukee’s annual Mexican Fiesta brings the sound\, culture\, and taste of México to Milwaukee’s lakefront. Join the fun as they celebrate three days of fun\, food\, Mariachi and Fiesta for everyone from Friday\, August 23rd through Sunday\, August 25th! Mexican Fiesta encourages individuals from all ethnic backgrounds to share in the beauty of Mexico’s rich history\, art\, music\, and food\, right where Summerfest and all the other ethnic festivals are celebrated in Wisconsin’s largest city. \nThe Cultural Pavilion will display an extraordinary show and exhibition of the Mexican arts & crafts from more than 150 artisans coming directly from different states of México. DESCRIPTION:Racine welcomes the only Pro Watercross Tour stop in Wisconsin this summer July 13-14! \nWatercross is basically motocross on Personal Watercrafts (PWCs or jet skis) – but these athletes compete on an unpredictable liquid track\, varying from oceans\, lakes and rivers. Competitors challenge the notion of what’s possible\, utilizing the most advanced equipment reaching speeds of over 85 mph against a full line of competitors to the extreme freestylist landing a double back-flip in surf. This sport is driven by their passion\, creating a lifestyle that combines adrenaline and pure enjoyment of being on the water. \n \nEach race begins with one of the most gut-wrenching experiences in motorsports the side-by-side gated start. Similar to horse racing\, a watercross racing start features 20 riders exploding off the line\, each thinking to themselves “I’m going to be the first one to that buoy.” Surviving the first-turn is just the beginning. Speed\, technique and racing ability will all come into play over the next 20 minutes\, as the riders begin to negotiate a series of left and right hand turns. \nThis exciting event is part of a national tour with stops in Panama City Beach and Pensacola Beach in Florida; Hartwell\, GA; and the National Championship in Charleston\, WV. \nRound Three takes place on the waters of Lake Michigan at Racine’s nationally-recognized North Beach\, with plenty of action in Closed Course\, Freestyle\, Freeride\, and Hydrodrag Racing both Saturday\, July 13th and Sunday\, July 14th. \n \nYou can get to Racine’s North Beach via Highways 11\, 20\, 32\, or 38 towards downtown. SUMMARY:Steel Bridge Songfest
DESCRIPTION:Steel Bridge Songfest\nSteel Bridge Songfest is the “Greatest Original Songwriters’ Festival in the Midwest.” Songwriters of national\, regional\, and local acclaim come together to write songs inspired by Sturgeon Bay’s Historic Steel Bridge. It consists of a four-day songwriting collaborative called the Construction Zone; their slogan is “Music so fresh it hasn’t been written yet!” \nFounded in 2005 by musician Pat MacDonald (of Timbuk3 fame) and his sister\, Steel Bridge Songfest began as part of a grass-roots campaign to restore the historic “Steel Bridge” – the original route of Highways 42 and 57 as they crossed Sturgeon Bay. 2019 marks a renewed direction for Steel Bridge Songfest. The non-profit they operate is becoming the Steel Bridge Creative Foundation\, and previous events like the pub crawl and the outdoor festival are being suspended for this year while they renew their focus on the music. As they noted: \n“While the pub crawl has been an annual shot in the arm for the bar scene\, and the outdoor festivals provide some good clean fun for the community\, our strongest supporters know that the heart and soul of ALL of our events has always been The Construction Zone where the songwriting and recording happens. This collaborative group process\, based on games of spin-the-bottle\, is unlike anything else happening anywhere. And we happen to be blessed with the perfect performance venue for bringing it all to light. We love working with Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) and we’re excited to begin focusing exclusively on the writing\, recording\, and presentation of our newest “music so fresh\, it hasn’t been written yet” at TAP.” — from their site. \nOver 200 musicians perform at Steel Bridge Songfest each year. Live performances take place across several venues around Sturgeon Bay\, showcasing all of the newly written music as well as past favorites. DESCRIPTION:Astronomy lovers and people who just like “far out” things\, this is for you! The Modine-Benstead Observatory is hosing one of its Open House Racine County events Saturday night\, June 8th for free exploration of the observatory and the stars and planets its telescopes gaze upon. \nSeriously\, you can just go in for free and look at the universe through their telescopes. Depending on conditions\, you can check out the moon\, planets\, and many deep sky objects. If they’re deep enough\, remember that you’re actually looking back in time. For example\, when you view the Andromeda galaxy\, you are looking back in time 2.9 million years. Trippy\, man! \nThese public open house events are held monthly from April through October. Parking is free along with free admission. The Racine Astrological Society\, which runs the whole thing\, is a non-profit\, volunteer-run organization and of course small donations are welcomed to help defray the yearly costs of observatory maintenance and care. While families are welcome\, be sure to keep young children close (it’s a dark area\, since the grounds are not illuminated to promote better observing) and instruct them to be careful with the telescope equipment\, which is provided by RAS members. Note that there may be lines to make observations through some telescopes. Questions are expected and welcomed\, since part of their club mission is to educate and inspire people to participate in the world of amateur astronomy. Chocolate Fest started 22 years later in 1987 and has been delighting chocolate lovers ever since. Festivities get underway on Thursday\, May 2 at 5:30pm with the 2019 Maibock Anstich – Followed by Free beer until 6:30pm! \nThe fun lasts the whole weekend through Sunday\, May 5th and includes Live Music\, Food\, Dance\, Contests and Beer! Check out the beautiful trails in the park and the nice views of the Milwaukee River\, which flows right past – and below – the Estabook Beer Garden. \nThe Milwaukee River has a nice rapids as its flows past Estabrook Park and the Beer Garden.\nYou can easily get to Estabrook Park and the Beer Garden via Estabrook River Parkway\, just south of Hampton Avenue and about 3/4 mile north of Highway 190/Capitol Drive. Highway 32 goes along Lake Michigan less than two miles to the east\, while Highway 57 and I-43 approach less than two miles to the west.
