SUMMARY:Door County Fair
DESCRIPTION:Established back in 1871\, the Door County Fair is a fun-filled time for kids and adults of all ages. Check out the fair saluting the county with the longest freshwater coastline in the U.S.! \nAttractions include everything from Midway rides to tractor pulls and motorcycle racing to demolition derby. Plenty of animals will be on display and there will be a Quality Meat Animal Sale Saturday evening at 6pm. The Cellcom Festival Stage includes activities for kids including magicians\, contests\, clowns\, juggling\, and more. \nThere will be TONS of great music and other shows\, highlights of the schedule can be found further down. \nThe Drill Team Competition will be held on Saturday\, August 3rd\, 2019 at noon at the Arena. This competition shows the skills of both the horse and rider performing choreographed maneuvers – all done with multiple horses and riders. On their way back from Green Bay’s festival over the weekend\, Sturgeon Bay will be home to these majestic vessels Monday\, July 29 and the morning of Tuesday\, July 30 as part of Nicolet Bank Tall Ships®\, offering a wide variety of entertainment and experiences. \nThese nine ships will muster by Sherwood Point and then come in under sail tentatively between 3pm and 5pm on Monday\, July 29. The ships that are partaking in the Tall Ship Challenge will depart approximately 8am Tuesday morning\, July 30. They will sail to Algoma for the start and they will race from there to Kenosha. \nRefreshments by the Sturgeon Bay Visitors & Convention Bureau and food by Scats Got Your Tongue will be available at Graham Park Monday evening! One of only 11 ports in North America and one of 7 in the USA\, the Port of Green Bay will be home to nine majestic vessels July 26-28 as part of Nicolet Bank Tall Ships®\, offering a wide variety of entertainment and experiences. \nDockside touring ships allow event-goers to learn about each ship’s rich history and meet the crew. Sailing ships offer even more of an experience as they hoist their anchor and sail down the river to the mouth of the bay. Daily programming includes a full day of entertainment that is sure to make lasting memories. DESCRIPTION:Wisconsin Farm Technology Days is one of the largest agricultural shows in the nation. Being Wisconsin’s premier outdoor farm show\, this three-day event showcases the latest improvements in production agriculture\, including many practical applications of recent research findings and technological developments. \nThis year\, the 65th annual Farm Technology Days takes place at the Walter Grain Farms in Johnson Creek\, right in Jefferson County. Follow the signs off I-94\, Highways 19\, 26\, or 89\, or County Highways B (the old historic Highway 30\, once the main road between Madison and Milwaukee) or Q to get to the property. \nThe “Cheesehead Express” and Ag Career Day on Tuesday \nGet on board the Cheesehead Express on Tuesday\, July 23rd for a FREE trip to Ag Career Day! \nBuses from 10 different locations in the state will will embark to Jefferson County for the 65th annual Wisconsin Farm Technology Days. 1\,000 students\, going into grades 7th – 12th are invited to attend and will receive: A free Ag Career Day t-shirt\, free admission to the show\, free transportation\, a coupon for a free scoop of Culver’s fresh frozen custard. Competitors challenge the notion of what’s possible\, utilizing the most advanced equipment reaching speeds of over 85 mph against a full line of competitors to the extreme freestylist landing a double back-flip in surf. This sport is driven by their passion\, creating a lifestyle that combines adrenaline and pure enjoyment of being on the water. \n \nEach race begins with one of the most gut-wrenching experiences in motorsports the side-by-side gated start. Similar to horse racing\, a watercross racing start features 20 riders exploding off the line\, each thinking to themselves “I’m going to be the first one to that buoy.” Surviving the first-turn is just the beginning. DESCRIPTION:Steel Bridge Songfest\nSteel Bridge Songfest is the “Greatest Original Songwriters’ Festival in the Midwest.” Songwriters of national\, regional\, and local acclaim come together to write songs inspired by Sturgeon Bay’s Historic Steel Bridge. It consists of a four-day songwriting collaborative called the Construction Zone; their slogan is “Music so fresh it hasn’t been written yet!” \nFounded in 2005 by musician Pat MacDonald (of Timbuk3 fame) and his sister\, Steel Bridge Songfest began as part of a grass-roots campaign to restore the historic “Steel Bridge” – the original route of Highways 42 and 57 as they crossed Sturgeon Bay. 2019 marks a renewed direction for Steel Bridge Songfest. The non-profit they operate is becoming the Steel Bridge Creative Foundation\, and previous events like the pub crawl and the outdoor festival are being suspended for this year while they renew their focus on the music. As they noted: \n“While the pub crawl has been an annual shot in the arm for the bar scene\, and the outdoor festivals provide some good clean fun for the community\, our strongest supporters know that the heart and soul of ALL of our events has always been The Construction Zone where the songwriting and recording happens. This collaborative group process\, based on games of spin-the-bottle\, is unlike anything else happening anywhere. And we happen to be blessed with the perfect performance venue for bringing it all to light. SUMMARY:Open House Racine County at Modine-Benstead Observatory
DESCRIPTION:Astronomy lovers and people who just like “far out” things\, this is for you! The Modine-Benstead Observatory is hosing one of its Open House Racine County events Saturday night\, June 8th for free exploration of the observatory and the stars and planets its telescopes gaze upon. \nSeriously\, you can just go in for free and look at the universe through their telescopes. Depending on conditions\, you can check out the moon\, planets\, and many deep sky objects. If they’re deep enough\, remember that you’re actually looking back in time. For example\, when you view the Andromeda galaxy\, you are looking back in time 2.9 million years. Trippy\, man! \nThese public open house events are held monthly from April through October. Parking is free along with free admission. The Racine Astrological Society\, which runs the whole thing\, is a non-profit\, volunteer-run organization and of course small donations are welcomed to help defray the yearly costs of observatory maintenance and care. While families are welcome\, be sure to keep young children close (it’s a dark area\, since the grounds are not illuminated to promote better observing) and instruct them to be careful with the telescope equipment\, which is provided by RAS members. Note that there may be lines to make observations through some telescopes. Questions are expected and welcomed\, since part of their club mission is to educate and inspire people to participate in the world of amateur astronomy. DESCRIPTION:Racine’s Monument Square Art Festival – they sometimes shorten it to MSAF – takes place Saturday and Sunday June 1st and 2nd\, 2019. It’s one of Wisconsin’s oldest and most respected juried fine arts events\, with over 60 artists from around the country. You’ll find works in a wide variety of media. \nThe festival includes the Great Lakes Chalk Art Competition (GLCAC)\, sponsored by Real Racine\, featuring regional arts creating works of art along Fifth Street from Wisconsin Avenue to Main Street all day Saturday. GLCAC is a juried event offering $1\,000 in cash awards. Judging takes place at the end of the day Saturday. Awards will be announced at the evening GLCAC/MSAF artists’ reception. \nCheck out “Chalk It Up and Chow Down” – a selection of local food vendors set up near the GLCAC artists. DESCRIPTION:Burlington is “Chocolate City\, USA\,” named so for its Nestle plant\, which opened in 1965. Chocolate Fest started 22 years later in 1987 and has been delighting chocolate lovers ever since. Although the dates used to move around\, it now takes place every Memorial Day weekend – this year\, that means May 24-27\, 2019. \nThat’s a lot of chocolate. Good!\nPlenty of exhibits on chocolate\, demonstrations on chocolate-making\, and samples highlight the main theme of the festivals. Music from national and regional acts\, family events\, and more add to the fun. Need a sugar rush? There’s a cupcake-eating contest if you’re in a hurry for it! \nIt really is chocolate Jenga…\nThere’s also a Rotary Carnival\, a Chocolate City Bike Ride\, fireworks\, and a Memorial Day Veterans Day Parade. Chocolate Jenga is a crowd-pleaser – and suspenseful at times! Chocolate carvings\, treats\, and more add to the tasty fun. \nThe Burlington Festival Grounds are just off Milwaukee Street (City Highways 36 & 83) along Maryland Avenue near the Fox River and Riverside Park\, northeast of downtown. City Highway 11 just to the south\, and Highway 142 approaches from the southeast. While in town\, you can check out other places like the Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum and Fred’s\, one of Wisconsin’s legendary burger joints. \nLive music and other performances will take place on several stages across the grounds. Friday night the 26th will feature Guest Artists Grace Kelly & The New York Voices. \nAfterwards\, you can enjoy the Airmen of Note\, the premiere jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force (and one of the six ensembles that form the Air Force Band.)
