SUMMARY:Bald Eagle Watching Days
DESCRIPTION:Prairie du Sac and Sauk City\, collectively known as Sauk Prairie\, is the home of Bald Eagle Watching Days along the Wisconsin River. Bald eagles naturally flock to Prairie du Sac every winter to fish the river’s open waters. Check out Birds of Prey shows\, an eagle release\, guided bus tours\, Native American legends\, aerial antics\, and family activities at this free\, family-friendly event Friday\, January 17th and Saturday\, January 18th. \nFor winter survival\, eagles need open water for fishing\, undeveloped shoreline with large trees for perching\, and sheltered valleys for night-time roosting. Eagle watching is best during the morning when the birds are most active fishing and are frequently seen perching in trees along the river. Spotting scopes are available for your use at Ferry Bluff Eagle Council’s Overlook in Prairie du Sac. \nMarge from REGIS (the Raptor Education Group Inc.) will be releasing up to 3 eagles\, including one “magnificent” adult\, starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday\, January 19\, 2019. Eagle release is held at VFW Park in Prairie du Sac. \nCheck out this video about the event from last year: \n \nPrairie du Sac and neighboring Sauk City are often combined to be called “Sauk Prairie.” These two towns not only birthed Culver’s restaurants and host bald eagles in winter\, they have a variety of great shops\, galleries\, restaurants\, bars\, and more. Vintage Brewing recently opened a satellite brewery in Sauk City and the riverfront views are fantastic across both towns. Highways 60 and 78 run through the heart of each downtown\, while U.S. 12 provides high-speed access on the west side to Madison and Wisconsin Dells. Highway 188\, on the other side of the river\, offers access to the Wollersheim Winery & Distillery. You can truly make this an awesome road trip day or weekend! \nAddress for Bald Eagle Watching Days:\nRiver Arts Center\n105 9th Street (Highways 60/78)\nPrairie du Sac\, WI 53578\nWebsite \n

SUMMARY:Timm House Christmas
DESCRIPTION:The Timm House was built in 1873 as a Greek Revival “stick style” home for one of the founders of New Holstein\, with an addition competed in 1892. This year’s Timm House Christmas offers a once in a lifetime chance to view a collection of “Oz” related items which have been collected by a local historic society member over a 45-year period.  You won’t see this in Kansas\, or anywhere else! \nAs in past Timm House Christmases\, the first floor of the restored Victorian residence has undergone a holiday transformation. During the month of December each first floor room is decorated to depict an element of the famous children’s book series and hit 1939 movie that introduced us to the “Land of Oz.” \nThe 2019 tour theme is “Rudolph\, the Red-Nosed Reindeer\,” celebrating the 80th anniversary of Robert Lewis May’s 1939 story which introduced Rudolph. 2019 is also the 70th anniversary of Gene Autry’s singing rendition of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” which was the #1 hit single record during the 1949 Christmas season. \nThe 2019 Timm House Christmas will feature all of the restored Victorian home’s downstairs rooms decorated with specific Rudolph artifacts and other Christmas decor related to the famous reindeer. Local musicians will also be on hand to play Christmas carols on the Timm family’s 1894 Steinway Box Grand piano. And\, as always\, there will be something tasty in the Timm House kitchen. \nDates for the self-guided Timm House Christmas tours continue on weekends in December: the 6th-8th\, 13th-15th\, and the 20th-22nd. Friday hours are 5 to 8 pm. Saturday and Sunday hours are from 11 am to 3 pm. Admission for ages 13 and over is $5.00\, age six to 12 is $2.50 and five and under are admitted at no charge. \nAdmission for adults is $5\, children 12 and under are $2.50. \nThe Timm House is located at 1600 Wisconsin Avenue in New Holstein along Highways 32 and 57. Tours are also available at other times\, by appointment\, through a call to (920) 898-5746. \nA Timm House Christmas Address:\n1600 Wisconsin Avenue\nNew Holstein\, WI 53061\n(920) 898-5746\nWebsite \n\n\n\n\n \nNote for outside of Christmastime: adjacent to the Timm House\, the Pioneer Corner Museum is open on Saturday & Sunday\, 1 – 4 pm from the first weekend in May through the final weekend of October. Admission is $7.00 for a single ticket to either the Timm House or Pioneer Corner Museum. A $10.00 combo ticket provides admission to both the TH and PCM. Admissions purchased with a combo ticket do not have to occur on the same day. SUMMARY:Villa Louis After Dark
DESCRIPTION:Prairie du Chien is Wisconsin’s second oldest city\, and history abounds. Home to Fort Crawford\, the area became a prosperous trading center; it’s where Hercules Dousman built his mansion\, Villa Louis. On Saturday\, October 26th\, Villa Louis After Dark will let you explore this history and get some spooky tales (and treats) just ahead of Halloween as you explore the grounds in this lamplight tour. \nPicture this on the Saturday evening before Halloween: the sun sets west over the Mississippi River while the long shadows of autumn cross the lawns of Villa Louis\, conjuring spirits of the 19th century. Where Villa Louis sits\, on St. Feriole Island\, plenty of spooky tales await. Costumed interpreters will hand out treats and spin spooky tales across the 26-acre site. The Villa Louis Visitor Center\, easily identifiable since it sits on stilts\, is where the tours begin and end. You can also enjoy a bonfire and S’mores (really\, what’s a better fall treat than those??) This lamplight tour beckons visitors into close encounters with historic figures of long ago. \nVilla Louis After Dark begins at 6pm on Saturday\, October 26\, and runs until 9pm. Tours will run continuously. Villa Louis itself has tours year ’round\, as well as a number of events to celebrate history\, seasons\, and more. Tours offer a glimpse into the life of a historic house museum. Highlighting the care and upkeep of a unique object from the Dousman collection\, tours include visits to the nooks and crannies of this historic and beautiful restored mansion. You can plan your visit anytime\, starting here. \nPrairie du Chien lies just north of where the Wisconsin River flows into the Mississippi in one of the most beautiful areas of Wisconsin.
