DESCRIPTION:Hayward hosts the 66th annual Lumberjack World Championships July 15-18\, 2026! The Lumberjack World Championships began in 1960 as a way to acknowledge the rich history of the logging industry across the United States. Once again\, over 21 events will offer international competition showcasing the best sawing\, chopping\, speed climbing\, log rolling\, boom-running & more! It’s great family fun. \nMore than 100 lumberjacks and lumberjills vie for more than $50\,000 in prize money\, making this one of the largest paybacks for lumberjack competition in the world – and of course\, world records in these events could be set – they often have! \nUp to 12\,000 spectators enjoy the action in Hayward.\nOpening night – Thursday\, July 15th – is Mountain Dew Family Night\, with special family pricing for admission ($45 for two adults and up to four children) and other specials. DESCRIPTION:Racine’s annual Salmon-A-Rama is a popular tournament open to all anglers on Lake Michigan\, with nine days of entertainment for the whole family! Now one of the largest freshwater salmon and trout tournaments in the world\, Salmon-A-Rama features participation categories like the off shore/Boat division\, on shore\, youth\, kayak\, Two-In-A-Boat and Super Sweepstakes. \nThe Grand Prize is a combination of $25\,000 cash and a 9.9-horsepower Yamaha outboard motor or the choice of a GMC Canyon\, Buick Encore or Chevrolet Camaro. There’s an additional $70\,000 in cash and prizes in several categories. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Lake Michigan fishery for future generations to enjoy. \nSalmon-A-Rama is not only a fishing tournament\, it’s also a festival. There will be something for everyone. There will be bands\, raffles\, a bags tournament\, pig roast\, smelt fry\, fish boil\, kids entertainment and so much more. \nSalmon-A-Rama kicks off at 12:01 am Saturday\, July 11th (so you might also say late Friday night) and it runs through 11 am on Sunday\, July 19th. DESCRIPTION:Battle on Bago is the Midwest’s largest ice fishing tournament and the family and fishing event of the year! The 19th annual Battle on Bago (winter version\, there’s a summer one in June) takes place on Lake Winnebago February 20th-21st\, 2026. There’s a Friday Fish Fry on the ice – weather permitting – with live music. Saturday’s Ice Fishing Tournament features over $275\,000 in cash and prizes! \nThe Tournament starts Friday\, February 20th at 6:00 am; scales will be open from 4pm to 8pm. On Saturday February 21st\, scales will open at 9am; the tournament ends at 2:00pm. Tournament ticket sales END at 6am Friday. You must be in line by 2:00 pm at Menominee Park in Oshkosh. \nContestants will be allowed to fish Lake Winnebago and the Upper River Lakes: Lake Poygan\, Lake Winneconne\, and Lake Butte des Morts. Ice Fishing Permitted ONLY. You can weigh 1 fish per fishing ticket of any of the following species: Walleye (minimum length 14”)\, panfish (perch\, bluegills\, crappies)\, or whitebass. Any other fish not listed here will not be eligible for registration. Fish may be taken with tip-ups or by rod and reel. There is no age requirement on tournament participation. \nAlong with fishing\, check out the heated tent and enjoy a great fish fry and other food from 5-10pm\, plus live music from 7:30pm-11pm Friday night. SUMMARY:Ashland Book Across the Bay
DESCRIPTION:Ashland’s Book Across the Bay is one of the upper Midwest’s most unique winter events\, open to over 4\,000 skiers and snowshoers of all ages and ability levels. The 10-kilometer course\, which is groomed for both classic-style and skate skiing\, starts in Ashland and ends in Washburn\, and follows a route not on land\, but over the frozen surface of Lake Superior\, the world’s largest lake. The event is held at night\, and the course is lit by the stars above and up to 1\,000 candles in ice luminaries that line the entire route! \nThis is a FREE point-to-point race that\, this year\, starts in Washburn and ends in Ashland. Please plan your transportation accordingly. They strongly urge you to park your car in Washburn near the finish area at Thompson’s West End Park just off Highway 13\, and catch a shuttle to Ashland before the race. Buses will run from Ashland to Washburn 1:00–5:00 pm prior to the race. \nThe race itself starts in waves\, from competitive skiers and snowshoers to recreational\, and then walkers who may prefer not to be timed. The start area is at Maslowski Beach\, which is located along U.S. Highway 2 at the far west end of Ashland. The finish line is in Washburn\, on the bay near Thompson’s West End Park. A heated tent will be set up there for the post-race chili feed\, beer and soda\, music and awards. \nThree Fun Races take place on Lake Superior in front of The Blue Wave: \n\nThe Penguin Fun Race starts at 11:00AM for children under 8 years old\nThe Fox Fun Race starts at 11:15AM for children 8 to 10 years old. Each participant in the Penguin and Fox races will receive an award\, hot chocolate and cookies\nThe Polar Bear Race starts at 11:30AM for children 11 to 14 years of age. DESCRIPTION:Racine welcomes the only Pro Watercross Tour stop in Wisconsin this summer July 13-14! \nWatercross is basically motocross on Personal Watercrafts (PWCs or jet skis) – but these athletes compete on an unpredictable liquid track\, varying from oceans\, lakes and rivers. Competitors challenge the notion of what’s possible\, utilizing the most advanced equipment reaching speeds of over 85 mph against a full line of competitors to the extreme freestylist landing a double back-flip in surf. This sport is driven by their passion\, creating a lifestyle that combines adrenaline and pure enjoyment of being on the water. \n \nEach race begins with one of the most gut-wrenching experiences in motorsports the side-by-side gated start. Similar to horse racing\, a watercross racing start features 20 riders exploding off the line\, each thinking to themselves “I’m going to be the first one to that buoy.” Surviving the first-turn is just the beginning. SUMMARY:Bloomer Rope Jump Contest - World Championship
DESCRIPTION:Bloomer’s rope jumping boom began in 1960 when a former coach named Wally Mohrman became the physical education teacher in the schools. Knowing the value of the exercise\, he decided to stir some interest with a contest. The emphasis was on speed jumping: how many times a student could whip a rope under his feet in a given period. \nEach year interest grew. Champion jumpers emerged\, and records were established to shoot at. The finals are held each year on the last Saturday in January. Each year\, students from Grades 1 through 8 train hard and come to Bloomer to compete. \nTo add to the contest\, Mohrman formed a group called the “Swinging Safari”. Its girls do precision rope jumping routines to various types types of music. Their appearances highlight the rope jump event. \nBloomer has made itself into America’s swingingest town. Bumper stickers\, t-shirts\, and signs at the city limits all proclaim their fame. Many other schools are sponsoring speed jumping contests and sending their winners to the big world championship in Bloomer. Each year the Bloomer contest is bigger and better with records constantly being challenged. \n\n\n\n \n2019 Bloomer Speed Rope Jump Contest Schedule:\nSaturday January 26\, 2018 \nRegistration will begin for each division at 8 a.m. at Bloomer Senior High School. All entrants must be registered by 9:30 am. \nPreliminaries will begin promptly at 10 am. We will take a break\nbetween each division. Preliminaries should be completed by approximately 2 pm. \nThe Hospitality Room will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 pm. Coffee\, pop\, chips and sandwiches will be served at very reasonable prices. \nFinals will start at 3 pm with the finals competition lasting an estimate of 2 hours. \nAll finalists are asked to be back by 2:30pm for the Finals Competition. \nBloomer is along Highway 40\, right by Highway 64 and the U.S. 53 freeway just a short distance north of Chippewa Falls. It’s a jumpin’ good time – and definitely a unique one!

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, January 5th and/or February 2nd\, 2019\, spend a night with family and friends at Blue Mound\, the highest point in southern Wisconsin. From high atop\, they welcome 2019 with the Blue Mound Candlelight Ski\, Hike\, and Snowshoe event hosted by the Friends of Blue Mound State Park. \nA 1 and 2-mile candlelit\, wooded loop will be available to ski and a separate 0.75-mile candlelit wooded trail will be available for hikers\, snowshoers and leashed pets. Warm up with free hot drinks inside the heated shelter. Hot refreshments\, baked goods and shirts will be available for sale. Enjoy the bonfire and free marshmallows for roasting. Guided hikes through the illuminated woods with the park Naturalist will be held at 6 and 7 p.m. The only cost for this fun-filled family event is a daily or annual park sticker\, which may be purchased upon entry to the park. DESCRIPTION:Ready for some Footy?? That’s the nickname for Australian Rules Football\, and the US wing of the Aussie League is bringing the Australian Football National Championships to Racine County! \nThis is the world’s largest Australian football tournament\, taking place October 13-14\, 2018 at the Soccer Complex of Racine (SCoRe) in Franksville\, just northwest of Racine proper. \nAustralian Football (nicknamed “Footy”) has some significant differences with American Football. The field is oval-shaped and about twice the length of an American football field. Teams of 18 players can move the ball using any parts of their bodies. They’re not wearing the football pads and uniforms that American football players do – they dress like soccer or rugby players. Any player can score by kicking\, hitting\, or running the ball through the goal. Aussie Football games consist of four 20-minute quarters\, time continues to roll and more time is “added on” if play is delayed – similar to soccer – and players can move freely around the field and sub in or out at any time. Oh\, and a player advancing the ball must bounce the ball or touch it to the ground every 15 meters. SUMMARY:Westby Snowflake Ski Jump
DESCRIPTION:Westby features a ski jump complex with five jumps in Timber Coulee\, the largest of which is a 118-meter Olympic-sized hill used for national and international competitions. The Westby Snowflake Ski Jump Tournament happens the weekend of February 2-3 and it’s a blast! \nThe Large Hill Meet is held early each year in February and attracts not only U.S. ski jumpers but competitors from around the world. The four smaller hills at the site include a 65-meter hill and smaller 40\, 20\, and 10 meter hills for training junior jumpers. Numerous Olympic and world-class ski jumpers have competed at the Snowflake Ski Jumping Complex. \nEven though the Winter Olympics are just a couple of weeks away\, the Snowflake Ski Jump is expected to feature approximately 20 national and international athletes from countries including Norway\, Finland\, Slovenia and the United States. \nOn Thursday\, Feb. 1\, Snowflake will host hospitality night from 6-9 p.m.at the Westby Rod and Gun building in Timber Coulee where the 2017 Snowflake royalty\, Queen Faith Gardner and her attendants\, Alexis Mahan and Rebecca Buckles\, will meet and greet visitors. \nOn Friday\, Feb. 2\, there will be a kick-off breakfast at Borgen’s Café from 7-10 a.m. Opening ceremonies for the ever-popular “Friday Night Under the Lights” night jump will be held at 7 p.m.\, with competition slated at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a long standing jump after the regular competition. Live music by “High Mileage” will complete the evening at the Westby Rod & Gun in Timber Coulee from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. \nOn Saturday Feb. 3\, open training is scheduled from 9-11 a.m.\, followed by opening ceremonies at noon. Competition for the second day of the event kicks off at 12:30 p.m. followed by the long standing jump and awards ceremony. Weather permitting on Saturday there will be helicopter rides and horse-drawn wagon rides on the grounds. The ski club also funds a money pile for kids to collect coins. After the jump spectators are invited to attend a second live music event with “Blue Collar 40” at the Westby Rod & Gun from 3-7 p.m. \nThe 2017 ski button can be purchased in advance until Thursday\, Feb. 1 for $15. After that time\, buttons can be purchased at the gate the weekend of the event for $20. The button is good for both days of the tournament and are available at local businesses or can be purchased online. Children under 12 will be admitted free. \nSnowflake is also once again teaming up with Logistics Health Inc. of La Crosse to sponsor free admission for veterans to the Snowflake Ski Jump. All current and former military service members\, their spouses and their children (under the age of 18) will receive a special event button and be admitted to the two-day event free of charge. \nVeterans or service members will need to show a current military ID card or other proof of service such as VFW\, Legion\, DAV current membership card\, or a DD Form 214 (record of discharge) and photo ID. Military buttons are available only at the gate. DESCRIPTION:The Pettit National Ice Center hosts the 2018 US Olympic Long Track Speedskating Trials now through Sunday\, January 7! The Pettit is one of only two official US Olympic training facilities in the United States\, and the Trials have formally returned to the Oval here for the first time since 1998. The timing is impeccable – and also quite coincidental – with the Pettit’s 25th Anniversary. \nFor six nights you can experience the best in US speedskating competition as they get primed to pursue Gold in the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang\, South Korea. As you watch these incredible athletes at the US Olympic Long Track Speedskating Trials\, enjoy food and beverages and plenty of activities in the “fan zone” tent which will be located just east of the front entrance to the Center\, facing I-94. \nOpportunities for VIP experiences and access will make events memorable for groups\, companies\, and organizations.
