SUMMARY:Bacon & Brews Fest\, Oak Creek
DESCRIPTION:Bacon & Brews Fest combines running\, walking\, bacon\, and beer along the shores of Lake Michigan in Oak Creek’s Lake Vista Park on Saturday\, September 5th\, 2020. It begins with a 5K run and walk\, which you can participate in in person along a twisty\, turny course in the park\, or participate in virtually from wherever you are. Why the 5th of September? Because that’s International Bacon Day! \nAfter the 5K\, at the Lake Vista location they’ll have an after party featuring the aforementioned bacon\, brews in the form of great craft beers\, plus soda\, water\, food of all kinds\, and more. All participants will receive a finishers medal\, Special Swag\, a T-shirt\, and a bacon/beer filled lunch. The party will include social distancing measures\, and masks will be provided if participants don’t have one. But be sure to party after the run… you can bring a chair\, enjoy delicious food and beverages\, and take in the beautiful views of Lake Vista Park! \nThis is all happening in Oak Creek\, right at the end of Highway 100 just past where it meets with Highway 32\, which runs along the shores of Lake Michigan from Milwaukee to Racine\, Kenosha\, and all points south. When you’re done – or even before you go – check out Drexel Town Square\, which offers a ton of shops\, bars and restaurants\, hotels\, and more! We’re cool with that. \nKegs Corks & Forks takes place from 5-8pm at Tomah Recreational Park’s Ice Hockey Rink\, although partying will continue well past that. There will be a Smoked Meat Competition where the competitors are the Tomah Police Department vs. the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department\, craft beer sampling\, wine tasting\, plenty of area food vendors offering samples and food for sale\, along with prizes\, raffles\, drawings\, and a post-event concert featuring Lassos and Lace followed by Jay Allen. \nTickets range from $40 for general admission\, which starts at 6pm; $60 for VIP admission\, which begins at 5pm; you can also get concert-only tickets for $20 ahead of time or $25 the day of the show. I-90 & I-94 converge here\, as do their pre-Interstate compatriots\, U.S. 12 and Highway 16. DESCRIPTION:Burlington is “Chocolate City\, USA\,” named so for its Nestle plant\, which opened in 1965. Chocolate Fest started 22 years later in 1987 and has been delighting chocolate lovers ever since. Although the dates used to move around\, it now takes place every Memorial Day weekend – this year\, that means May 24-27\, 2019. \nThat’s a lot of chocolate. Good!\nPlenty of exhibits on chocolate\, demonstrations on chocolate-making\, and samples highlight the main theme of the festivals. Music from national and regional acts\, family events\, and more add to the fun. Need a sugar rush? There’s a cupcake-eating contest if you’re in a hurry for it! \nIt really is chocolate Jenga…\nThere’s also a Rotary Carnival\, a Chocolate City Bike Ride\, fireworks\, and a Memorial Day Veterans Day Parade. Chocolate Jenga is a crowd-pleaser – and suspenseful at times! Chocolate carvings\, treats\, and more add to the tasty fun. \nThe Burlington Festival Grounds are just off Milwaukee Street (City Highways 36 & 83) along Maryland Avenue near the Fox River and Riverside Park\, northeast of downtown. City Highway 11 just to the south\, and Highway 142 approaches from the southeast. While in town\, you can check out other places like the Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum and Fred’s\, one of Wisconsin’s legendary burger joints. \nLive music and other performances will take place on several stages across the grounds. DESCRIPTION:Oconomowoc warms up the chilly January weather with its 9th annual Chili Fest on Saturday\, January 27th! Ice sculptures and carvings along the downtown streets\, ice and pond hockey on Fowler Lake\, open family skating\, a beer tent\, and of course plenty of chili tastings. \n \nChili tastings are hosted by downtown businesses and local fundraising organizations with proceeds going to local charity. As you stroll downtown and stop in shops you can check out professional ice carvers who dot the downtown streets chiseling frozen blocks into works of art. A DJ and beer tent – which will also offer burgers and hot cocoa – are set up on the lake near the hockey tournament. A family skating rink is groomed nearby and an ice fishing clinic is also planned for the young anglers. It should be a fairly mild Saturday\, so note ice conditions if you plan on skating. \nWhile you stroll Wisconsin Avenue\, check out a great burger at Crafty Cow\, browse boutique shops\, have a beer at Lakerz Sports Bar & Grill\, and get a gander at the marker by City Hall commemorating the former location of the Strand Theatre\, notable for being the place where the classic film The Wizard of Oz first premiered to audiences. Plenty of fun\, food\, skating\, history\, and more in this incredibly charming town at the western end of Waukesha County’s Lake Country. \nOconomowoc is where Highways 16 and 67 meet\, just north of I-94’s Exit 282. It all started in 1983 as part of Wisconsin’s effort to promote the state’s apple orchards; today\, Apple Affair draws people from throughout the state and nearby Minnesota. \nThis family event is held on the Square in downtown Galesville Saturday\, October 3rd.  Kicking off the annual event is breakfast which is served in the Big Tent on the Square.  The scrambled egg omelet is cooked in one of the biggest skillets you will ever see!  It took 1\,250 eggs\, 30 pounds of ham\, 10 cups of onions\, 9 pounds of butter\, 630 squares of coffee cake\, 22 gallons of apple juice\, 21 loaves of bread and 1\,200 cups of coffee to feed the 630 people who attended the first event. Since then\, attendance numbers in the thousands. \nAs the day continues\, the aroma wafting through the Square changes to the smell of bratwurst and hot dogs cooking on the outdoor grills. \nIn another tent\, Galesville’s famous 10-foot apple pie tempts the taste buds as it bakes. \nOrchards from the area set up stands where visitors can purchase apples and apple treats served by local growers.  Apple pie\, apple slices\, caramel apples\, Queen’s Apple\, apple cider\, apple juice — if it’s apple\, you will find it here. \nIn the parking lot across from the Square\, artisans and crafters attract shoppers with everything from dollhouse miniatures to crocheted doilies to braided rugs to woodworking crafts and so much more. \nThroughout the day\, music from the big tent permeates the air.  Provided by area performers\, the music is enjoyed by young and old alike. \nThe Apple Affair Bike Tour is a popular activity for the day.  Hundreds of bicyclists spend most of the day touring the Galesville apple orchards and surrounding area.  The scenery of this “Garden of Eden” is spectacular and the event is a perfect family affair.  The first Apple Affair attracted 42 bicyclists who rode the 28.7 mile loop from downtown Galesville through the orchards. The bike tour has grown in popularity and some years\, depending on the weather\, more than 200 bicyclists have participated. DESCRIPTION:How fitting is it that Fond du Lac has Fondue Fest?? With an annual attendance of more than 20\,000 people\, Fondue Fest comes in as the largest event in downtown FDL. Three stages feature a variety of music genres\, there’s a huge Kids Zone\, art and craft vendors\, farmer’s market vendors\, and of course\, plenty of cheese and chocolate fondue. Dip\, twirl\, and eat! \nFondue Fest takes place Saturday September 12th along Main Street in Fond du Lac. It’s just off I-41 & U.S. 151 (which bypass the city)\, with Highway 23 and U.S. 45 providing direct access. Highway 175 comes in from the south as Main Street\, although it technically ends before you reach downtown.
