DESCRIPTION:Boerner Botanical Gardens Winter Wonders Drive-Thru Holiday Light Show ushers in holiday cheer with brilliant light displays\, inflatable Santas\, and massive\, color-changing trees as part of an international-themed drive-thru experience with OVER ONE MILLION LIGHTS! From Friday\, November 19th all the way through Sunday\, January 2nd in 2022 (including all holidays)\, you and your family and friends can enjoy holiday displays from Europe\, the Middle East\, Asia\, and the United States on a 1.4-mile route winding through Whitnall Park and the grounds of the Gardens themselves. Theatrical and concert lighting effects change the colors of giant trees and bushes on the route in spectacular fashion. From 20-foot tall inflatable Santas to neon palm trees\, there are unique holiday displays around every corner.  There’s even a mini drive-in theater! \nAdmission is $25 per carload\, defined as any car\, van\, mini-van\, pick-up truck\, or SUV. You need to purchase your tickets online in advance. “Skip the Line” tickets gain early access between 4:30pm and 5:00pm for $35. Planning on showing up in a limo? They have a price for that\, too: $51.50 (yes\, just like the Van Halen album.) $51.50 also nets you a Season Pass for a car\, good for up to four visits from November 19th up through January 2nd. \nYou can get to Boerner Botanical Gardens just off U.S. 45/Highway 100 and Highway 24 via Whitnall Park in Hales Corners. SUMMARY:The Highground Veterans Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:High above surrounding territory (hence the name)\, The Highground Veterans Memorial Park serves as one of the nation’s finest tribute locations for American military veterans. The Highground Veterans Day Ceremony takes place Thursday\, November 11th. Due in part to COVID-19 precautionary steps\, this event will be held outdoors and the total length will be determined in part by weather. \nTHe Highground Veterans Day Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10am; the Wisconsin KIA/MIA/POW names from WWII to present day will be read and honored with the tolling of The Highground Liberty Bell. With all present and accounted for\, the Thorp VFW Post #9057 will present Colors on the Plaza at 11am. As of this writing\, the guest speaker is still to be determined. \nThe Ceremony itself will begin at 3pm. \nVeteran support and services will be onsite for continued resources. DESCRIPTION:Norskedalen hosts Ghoulees in the Coulees events Thursday\, October 28th through Saturday\, October 30th\, 2021 providing a fun\, yet scary and haunting\, experience for the whole family in this beautiful natural and cultural area near Coon Valley in southeastern La Crosse County. \nAt Ghoulees in the Coulees\, you can take a half-mile walk through chilling and thrilling spook stations along one of their wooded trails lined by hundreds of carved\, lit pumpkins. Once you navigate this\, you’ll regain your wits and end up with a treat and hot apple cider at Bekkum Homestead\, a historic homestead over 100 years old\, illuminated only by the light of the moon and jack-‘o-lanterns. \nSome of what awaits in the dark in Norskedalen during Ghoulees in the Coulees. Is this out of focus? Or are they ghosts??\nAlong with the hike\, you can enjoy storytelling\, fortune-telling\, grabbing a snack around the roaring fireplace\, and walking through the haunted barns and other buildings. While it can be fun for kids of all ages\, you may want to plan earlier hikes while it’s still light out for the very young and “faint of heart.” Earlier hikes around 5-7pm\, hikes are less scary (the spooks do not try to scare you\, but may offer a high-five\, handshake\, or wave). Conversely\, 7-10:30pm\, hikes are SUPER SCARY. They mean it! Chilling ghost stories designed to give you goosebumps will also be told at the end of your hike\, making regaining your wits tricky for some. Fortune tellers will also be there to peer into your future. \nFamily-friendly trick-or-treating takes place Thursday\, October 28th. Norskedalen’s Ghoulees in the Coulees Haunted Hikes take place Friday and Saturday October 29th & 30th. Friday slot times range from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (note: most Friday slots are sold out already!); Saturday slot times run from 4:30 p.m. to just after 8:00 p.m. \nTickets for the hikes are $35 per person. DESCRIPTION:The NEW Zoo (NE Wisconsin Zoo\, that’s what “NEW” stands for) northwest of Green Bay celebrates the North Shore Bank NEW Zoo Boo once again in 2021! It’s happening this year on the Friday-Saturday weekends of October 8-9\, 15-16\, and 22-23. For 2020 there will be no hay rides or giant inflatables\, but otherwise show up in costume and enjoy all treats and no tricks. As the NEW Zoo notes on its website\, “this year\, every guest over the age of 1 can receive a bag of candy on arrival (yes\, even the grown-ups)! The Zoo will be filled with festive\, family-friendly Halloween decorations\, so enjoy the sights of the Halloween season while visiting the animals. Be sure to ride the carousel and walk through the Happy Haunted Maze in the Children’s Zoo. The Dog House will also be on-site selling their full menu\, including their famous\, fresh battered cheese curds. Families can participate in North Shore Bank’s Zoo Scavenger Hunt\, and the first 500 families to finish during each time slot can pick up a prize (while supplies last).” \nFestivities for the NEW Zoo Boo run 3-8pm each day. The Adventure Park will be open for regular hours\, 10am – 6pm\, on all Saturdays and Sundays in October. \nRegarding COVID precautions\, the NEW Zoo website states: “To encourage comfortable social distancing throughout the Zoo\, this year’s event will feature Timed Entries\, with limited capacity for each arrival window. SUMMARY:Milwaukee County Drive-Thru Boo at the Zoo
DESCRIPTION:The Milwaukee County Zoo is going drive-thru again this year! The Milwaukee County Drive-Thru Boo at the Zoo lets you drive on Zoo pathways and take in a variety of Halloween-themed areas\, carved pumpkins and illuminated light shows. The ride is specially designed for kids of all ages\, including people who are kids at heart. The route is a 30-minute\, 1.5-mile Halloween ride that travels on  the wide and winding pathways through the Zoo. For safety purposes\, animals are not viewable during these evenings. \n \nNew this year! Guests can trick-or-treat from their vehicles! Tasty treats will be handed-out along the route. \nThis event is a merry-not-scary ride\, appropriate for kids of all ages\, and kids at heart. Concession stops will be available along the route to purchase snacks and treats. Merchandise areas will be available to purchase a favorite memento. \nBoo at the Zoo Drive-Thru Admission is $55 per carload for general visitors\, $50 per carload for Zoo Pass members. Advance tickets are available online only and cannot be purchased at the Zoo. Vehicles will be admitted into the Zoo at the specified time\, in 30-minute intervals. Entries are allowed only at the purchased time; last car admittance for the evening is 9 p.m. Tickets are non-transferrable and non-refundable. DESCRIPTION:The Hartford Hot Air Balloon Rally is BACK after being gone for a decade\, dotting the sky with colors and the city with all kinds of fun activities on Saturday\, August 7\, 2021! Enjoy the massive balloon launch\, the Night Glow\, vintage airplanes\, plus plenty of food\, music\, and more at Hartford’s Municipal Airport. DESCRIPTION:West Bend’s Regner Park hosts Washington County’s premier holiday lights event from November 27th through Christmas Eve (December 24th\, obviously)\, 2020 with Enchantment in the Park. \nFlush with holiday lights throughout the park\, you can do the drive-thru or walk-thru; the drive-thru entrance is off Silverbook Drive while walk-thru visitors are asked to enter via Main Street. DESCRIPTION:The 28th annual Exeland Trout Festival\, sponsored by the Exeland Rod & Gun Club\, will be held over Labor Day weekend\, Friday\, Saturday & Sunday\, September 4\, 5 & 6\, 2020. A $3 Trout Fest button gets you admission to get on the Sports Center grounds\, and the button is good for all three days. This year’s festival motto is “Make your day a keeper!” \nFestivities begin Friday at the Sports Center at 5:00 p.m. A trout fish sandwich & chips basket will be the night’s specialty at Rod’s Bar & Grill. You can sign up for the cribbage tournament\, which begins at 5:00 pm (play begins at 5:30 registration fee of $10 per team.) The men’s 8-team double elimination softball tournament also starts with games at 5:45 & 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to play on the Bean Bag court during the evening. Presentation of the Medallion Hunt winner is at 7:00 p.m. DJ music will be played throughout the activities. \nAt 7:30 pm\, Chris Kroeze performs. The former star on The Voice is from nearby and will put on a terrific show with great music! Fans are urged to bring a lawn chair. \nAppropriately\, Saturday’s events start with a trout fishing contest. Registration is on Main Street. The contest begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 11:30 a.m. Entry fee is proof of a festival button. Contest is for brook trout only. Trophies will be awarded to the top three fish. The three winners of the contest will be invited to ride on the Exeland Rod & Gun Club float in Sunday’s parade. Once again\, the trout fishing in the Exeland area this year has been unbelievable! \nThe Dave Lindau Memorial pancake breakfast will be from 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. inside the Exeland Rod & Gun Clubhouse located at the Sports Center. \nMain Street will be busy on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. Rummage sales\, craft sales\, garage sales\, and a bake sale will be going on. If you have a craft booth or other items to sell\, just show up\, find a spot on the street\, and start selling. There is no fee to vendors. \nIt’s a bike rider’s paradise! This will be the fourth year of the Trout Fest off road bike ride. A 27 mile loop through some of the most beautiful country northern Wisconsin has to offer. All ages are welcome but you should be in good physical shape as it’s a very challenging route. Registration is at 9:00 a.m. on Main Street in front of Superior Choice Credit Union and the ride will begin at 10:00 a.m. Cost is a Trout Fest button. A meal coupon will be presented to all participants after the ride to be redeemed at the Sports Center. \nFollow the many sporting events taking place at the Sports Center. Enjoy watching the softball tourney (10 a.m. start) & volleyball tourney (11 a.m. start). \nThe horseshoe court will be open all day for everyone to enjoy and compete. \nThe 32-team co-ed Bean Bag Toss tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. 100% payback. Top 6 places will receive cash. Entry fee for the 2-person team is $20. \nInflatable games will be scattered on the grounds to entertain the kid’s. Enough fun to entertain them all day. A wrist band needs to be purchased to get into the games. \nNobody should go hungry. Stop at one of the Rod & Gun Club’s concession areas or pay the food vendors a visit. There’s a lot of good food everywhere. \nAt noon in the pavilion listen to the music of the “Bare Bones” of Rice Lake\, formerly known as the Porch Dogs. 4 hours of great music. \nThe Texas Hold’em Tourney has been cancelled year but will return next year \nAt 4:30 p.m. a new Trout Festival queen will be crowned. Seven beautiful girls are competing for this year’s prestigious title. Last year’s queen Grace Zimmer will pass her crown onto the new winner. One of the 16 little gals competing for the Little Princess title will also be crowned at this time. \nAt 5:30 p.m. the Exeland Rod & Gun Club will make a little boy and girl happy when they draw to give away two free bikes and fishing poles. \nSaturday concludes with a street dance at the Sports Center pavilion from 8:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Music will be provided by “The G Men”. The former Exeland band is reuniting for the first time in 30 years. Look for a fun night! \nSunday’s events continue in the morning at 7:30 a.m. with the pancake breakfast at the Rod & Gun Clubhouse located at the Sports Center. Blueberry pancakes are the specialty. Breakfast concludes at 10:30 a.m. \nAt high noon the “Joe Trcka Memorial Parade” with 75 units will move down Main Street. One of the best small town parades in the area with lots of candy being tossed out to the kids. If you haven’t registered your unit yet and would like to be in the parade\, just show up at Swan Creek Park between 11 – 11:30 a.m. This year’s grand marshals are Neal & Marna Halberg\, longtime Exeland residents who are very active in all community events. \nAfter the parade\, it’s back to the Sports Center to be part of the many events still going on. Watch the finals of all the sporting events. Once again\, the kids can enjoy the inflatable games that are on the ground. \n \nAt 1:00 p.m. a delicious “chicken dinner” will be available at the new food shelter. Plus\, a lot of other good food will be available all day long in and around the pavilion. \nCow Pie Bingo will take place south of the softball field shortly after the parade. $10 per square to win cash! Whichever one of the hundred spot the calf decides to crap on will determine the winner. Advance tickets are now being sold at local businesses. Event is compliments of North Star Acres Farm of Exeland. \nAt 2:00 p.m. the Jump River Valley Mow Masters lawn mower races will take place at the Club’s race track located southwest of the pavilion. An exciting & must see event. \nIf you want to stay near the pavilion and enjoy good food and cold beverages you can listen to the music of the popular “Man 2 Man” band. Denny Goin and his son will perform from 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. \nAt 5:30 p.m. in the pavilion\, all of the drawings will be held for the raffle prizes. The $100 cash raffle\, Special 28th Anniversary raffle\, the 4-wheeler\, small cash prizes and a deer rifle will go to the lucky winners who have purchased raffle tickets. Bald eagles naturally flock to Prairie du Sac every winter to fish the river’s open waters. Check out Birds of Prey shows\, an eagle release\, guided bus tours\, Native American legends\, aerial antics\, and family activities at this free\, family-friendly event Friday\, January 17th and Saturday\, January 18th. \nFor winter survival\, eagles need open water for fishing\, undeveloped shoreline with large trees for perching\, and sheltered valleys for night-time roosting. Eagle watching is best during the morning when the birds are most active fishing and are frequently seen perching in trees along the river. Spotting scopes are available for your use at Ferry Bluff Eagle Council’s Overlook in Prairie du Sac. \nMarge from REGIS (the Raptor Education Group Inc.) will be releasing up to 3 eagles\, including one “magnificent” adult\, starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday\, January 19\, 2019. DESCRIPTION:Catalano Square in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward hosts the Under One Moon Festival\, a three-day pop-up festival that celebrates everything lunar. \nIts centerpiece is the Museum of the Moon\, a 23-foot diameter\, inflatable art installation of the lunar surface by Luke Jerram that rises over Catalano Square all weekend. The lunar celebration\, going on night and day\, includes moon songs\, chalk art\, original dance\, lectures from leading space experts and much more. The festival is produced under the direction of Black Box Fund\, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that supports public art\, music and performances that inspire and educate. \nThe remarkable detail of the Moon installation\, which suspends from a crane and hangs over the Catalano Square Fountain\, is the centerpiece. It shines at night and serves as a beacon for the festival. DESCRIPTION:Established back in 1871\, the Door County Fair is a fun-filled time for kids and adults of all ages. Check out the fair saluting the county with the longest freshwater coastline in the U.S.! \nAttractions include everything from Midway rides to tractor pulls and motorcycle racing to demolition derby. Plenty of animals will be on display and there will be a Quality Meat Animal Sale Saturday evening at 6pm. DESCRIPTION:Sturgeon Bay welcomes an amazing fleet of tall ships as part of the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Great Lakes 2019 Race Series\, making this Tall Ships Sturgeon Bay. On their way back from Green Bay’s festival over the weekend\, Sturgeon Bay will be home to these majestic vessels Monday\, July 29 and the morning of Tuesday\, July 30 as part of Nicolet Bank Tall Ships®\, offering a wide variety of entertainment and experiences. \nThese nine ships will muster by Sherwood Point and then come in under sail tentatively between 3pm and 5pm on Monday\, July 29. The ships that are partaking in the Tall Ship Challenge will depart approximately 8am Tuesday morning\, July 30. They will sail to Algoma for the start and they will race from there to Kenosha. \nRefreshments by the Sturgeon Bay Visitors & Convention Bureau and food by Scats Got Your Tongue will be available at Graham Park Monday evening! One of only 11 ports in North America and one of 7 in the USA\, the Port of Green Bay will be home to nine majestic vessels July 26-28 as part of Nicolet Bank Tall Ships®\, offering a wide variety of entertainment and experiences. \nDockside touring ships allow event-goers to learn about each ship’s rich history and meet the crew. Sailing ships offer even more of an experience as they hoist their anchor and sail down the river to the mouth of the bay. Daily programming includes a full day of entertainment that is sure to make lasting memories. DESCRIPTION:Wisconsin Farm Technology Days is one of the largest agricultural shows in the nation. Being Wisconsin’s premier outdoor farm show\, this three-day event showcases the latest improvements in production agriculture\, including many practical applications of recent research findings and technological developments. \nThis year\, the 65th annual Farm Technology Days takes place at the Walter Grain Farms in Johnson Creek\, right in Jefferson County. Follow the signs off I-94\, Highways 19\, 26\, or 89\, or County Highways B (the old historic Highway 30\, once the main road between Madison and Milwaukee) or Q to get to the property. \nThe “Cheesehead Express” and Ag Career Day on Tuesday \nGet on board the Cheesehead Express on Tuesday\, July 23rd for a FREE trip to Ag Career Day! \nBuses from 10 different locations in the state will will embark to Jefferson County for the 65th annual Wisconsin Farm Technology Days. 1\,000 students\, going into grades 7th – 12th are invited to attend and will receive: A free Ag Career Day t-shirt\, free admission to the show\, free transportation\, a coupon for a free scoop of Culver’s fresh frozen custard.
