From high atop\, they welcome 2019 with the Blue Mound Candlelight Ski\, Hike\, and Snowshoe event hosted by the Friends of Blue Mound State Park. \nA 1 and 2-mile candlelit\, wooded loop will be available to ski and a separate 0.75-mile candlelit wooded trail will be available for hikers\, snowshoers and leashed pets. Warm up with free hot drinks inside the heated shelter. Hot refreshments\, baked goods and shirts will be available for sale. Enjoy the bonfire and free marshmallows for roasting. Guided hikes through the illuminated woods with the park Naturalist will be held at 6 and 7 p.m. The only cost for this fun-filled family event is a daily or annual park sticker\, which may be purchased upon entry to the park. For more information or trail conditions\, contact the park at 608-437-5711. \nBlue Mound Candlelight skis\, snowshoe\, and hike events are very popular; some attract thousands of visitors on a given night. Given the recent publicity of these events through social media outlets and cool sites like StateTrunkTour.com\, and the department’s responsibility to provide a safe recreational experience\, access to these events may be restricted at times when parking capacity has been reached. \nTo reach Blue Mound State Park – which is amazing any time of the year – follow U.S. 18/151 either west from Madison or east from Dodgeville and follow the signs. In the daytime\, Blue Mound is easily seen! The park is great to visit throughout the winter\, with over 20 miles of trails and breathtaking views across several counties from the lookout towers. \n\n\n\n \nAddress for Blue Mound Candlelight Ski\, Hike\, and Snowshoe Event:\nBlue Mound State Park\n4350 Mounds Park Road (off U.S. 18/151)\nBlue Mounds\, WI 53517\n(608) 437-5711\nWebsite

SUMMARY:Samson Stomp & Romp at Milwaukee County Zoo
DESCRIPTION:STOMP your way into 2019 with the 39th Running of the Samson Stomp & Romp at the Milwaukee County Zoo! Happening Sunday\, January 20\, 2019\, this popular race honors one of the most famous Zoo residents\, Samson\, the silverback gorilla (1950-1981). Money raised from the event supports all of the animals in the Zoo’s collection. There’s a 5K Competitive Run\, a 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk\, and 1-Mile Romp & 1/4-Mile “Mini Romp” designed for children. \nFees/Times:\n5K Competitive Run: $25 in advance\, $30 day of. Race will be held rain or shine\, snow or cold\, however the Milwaukee County Zoo reserves the right to cancel due to severe weather or dangerous\, unforeseen race conditions. No refunds will be given. \nThe 5K race is officially timed and limited to 1\,500 runners; all races take place on public walkways throughout the Zoo. Due to safety concerns\, no strollers\, in-line skates or similar devices permitted. \nDuring the event\, take part in the mission of conservation by donating your old cell phones to the Zoo for recycling. The drop-off area is located in the Zoo’s U.S. Bank Gathering Place.
