Timm House Christmas« Back to Events
The Timm House was built in 1873 as a Greek Revival “stick style” home for one of the founders of New Holstein, with an addition competed in 1892. This year’s Timm House Christmas offers a once in a lifetime chance to view a collection of “Oz” related items which have been collected by a local historic society member over a 45-year period. You won’t see this in Kansas, or anywhere else!
As in past Timm House Christmases, the first floor of the restored Victorian residence has undergone a holiday transformation. During the month of December each first floor room is decorated to depict an element of the famous children’s book series and hit 1939 movie that introduced us to the “Land of Oz.”
The 2015 tour begins in the home’s vestibule where a collection of books from the Oz series will be on display. The parlor will feature an Emerald City theme including the Wizard himself and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Moving from the parlor to the living room will bring visitors to an encounter with many variations of the famous friends, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion. The lower bedroom decor will be devoted to Dorothy and Toto and the dining room will showcase a collection of Oz related games, puzzles, plates, and other children’s toys.
The final room on the tour, the kitchen, will display variations of Munchkin Land layouts and pay homage to the Good Witch.
The Timm House is located at 1600 Wisconsin Avenue in New Holstein along Highways 32 and 57 and is open for viewing from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27. Tours are also available at other times, by appointment, through a call to (920) 898-5746. A tour fee is charged.
