Shake the Lake« Back to Events
Madison’s Shake the Lake celebrates summer with music, great food and drinks, aerialists, a human cannonball, petting zoo, and more… all topped with a fantastic fireworks show over Lake Monona.
Live music includes headliners The Jayhawks, along with Verve Pipe, the Mascot Theory, and Driveway Thrift on the Rock Stage; the Diamond Center 96.3 STAR Country Stage features LOCASH headlining, with Michael Ray, Devin Dawson, and Smithfield opening.
At 7:30pm, David “the Bullet” Smith will be launched as the “Human Cannonball” into the air, before coming back down to earth in the waters of Lake Monona. It’s quite a sight!
Underground Aerial will perform with a “Superhero” theme this year, doing all kinds of aerobatic stunts and tricks. A petting zoo for the kids and a slew of different food and drink options round out the activities during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
At dusk, Festival Foods presents the Shake the Lake fireworks display, which will take place over the lake but light up not only the water, but the shoreline, downtown, The Capitol, and more in one of the highest-rated fireworks displays in the Midwest.
Shake the Lake runs Saturday, June 23rd along John Nolen Drive (U.S. 151) and the Lake Monona shoreline. It’s a quick drive from The Beltline (U.S. 12/14/18), and U.S. 51 or Highways 30 or 113 from the east side. While there, check out the beauty of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Monona Terrace, a crown jewel on the Madison skyline and a key stop along the Frank Lloyd Wright Trail!
Admission is free; there’s also the optional iHeartRadio Rooftop Party, providing a great view of the fireworks and more activities for a small admission fee.
