Morel Mushroom Festival« Back to Events
Muscoda celebrates the Morel Mushroom Festival every May, which is only fitting because that’s prime growing season in this “Morel Mushroom Capital of Wisconsin.” These unique mushrooms are considered quite a delicacy by top chefs everywhere; there are message boards and recipes and all kinds of resources for morel lovers. The soil in the Muscoda area is particularly suited for the growth of morels and they fully embrace this fungi.
Festivities include arts and crafts, walking tours of the Lower Wisconsin Riverway, tours of areas wineries and ancient Indian mounds, chain saw carvings, a car show, geocaching, helicopter rides, live music, and more! The Sunday Mushroom Parade starts at 2pm. Of course, the ‘shrooms take center stage and you enjoy them in a variety of dishes, including mushroom brats. How Wisconsin can you get?? Well, how about a local morel microbrew? You’ll find that here, too. Probably morel cheeses and maybe curds too.
You’ll find Muscoda along Highway 80 between the Wisconsin River and Highway 133. Highway 60 is just across the river. And this town comes to party for its Morel Mushroom Festival! Check their website for updates and full schedules.
