Bayfield Winter Festival« Back to Events
The Bayfield Winter Festival is an annual wild weekend of winter fun. To celebrate the end of winter, we put on a variety of fun and crazy activities. Whether you plunge into the frozen lake, chow down fish livers, tear up the obstacle course, or just come for the party, we’re sure you’ll enjoy the celebration of the end of the joyous winter season.
On behalf of the residents of Bayfield and surrounding communities, the Winter Festival team invites you to join the shenanigans during the Winter Festival of 2017!

Bayfield is a beautiful town in any season. Highway 13 brings you there, just a few miles north of Washburn and from U.S. 2 near Ashland.

Friday, March 2nd
Legendary Waters Resort and Casino is offering open sledding behind the hotel, with a legendary view of the lake. The hill is lighted and night sledding is welcome! Join them Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!
4-9 p.m. – WinterFLASH at Mt Ashwabay
Fireworks, bonfire, sparklers and more!
Friday nights we fire up the lights, and open the slopes with great deals! Thanks to generous area businesses, they’re able to offer $10 Lift Tickets with FREE Rentals* to youth grades 6-12. Also, the BART bus runs between Ashland and Washburn for only $1 round trip. So bundle up, and head up to Ashwabay for a great time on the slopes!

5 p.m. ’til Late – Freeze Your Glass Off Party at The Creamery
Kick off your WinterFEST at The Creamery Bar located across from the Bayfield Inn on First Street. The party offers door prizes. drink specials, complimentary chili bar from 4pm-6pm, and LIVE MUSIC by Noble Sound System at 8pm!
Saturday, March 3rd
Enjoy a day of downhill or cross country skiing at the Ashwabay Recreation Area.9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – KidFEST at the Bayfield Area Recreation Center
Sledding on the streets- Manypenny Ave (near Maggie’s) weather/snow permitting 10:30 a.m. Penguin Egg Hunt in the pool – Other activities: an obstacle course, a snowman building contest, and a coloring contest. Hot Chocolate and Cookies provided. Prizes will be awarded and it’s all FREE!!
10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Bayfield Winter Festival Poker Run
Collect poker cards by visiting any of 16 Bayfield area businesses. Best poker hands turned between 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Morty’s Pub win prizes. Visit these stores to get your cards:

Best hand will be determined using 5 cards from different businesses. Standard poker hand rankings apply. No swapping please. Turn in your cards between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Morty’s Pub in downtown Bayfield. Prizes for the top three hands will be awarded at 7 p.m. to kick off WinterBASH! You must be present to win.
11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. – Ice Rescue Demonstration by US Coast Guard
Located at the plunge hole by the pavilion.
12:30 p.m. – Polar Bear Plunge
Watch brave volunteers parade then jump into frigid Lake Superior through a hole in the ice to raise money for the Bayfield Recreation Center. Judge the plunges and the costumes. Better yet, do it yourself!

1 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Big Ice Golf on the ice behind the Bayfield Pavilion
Play 6 holes of golf on the ice. Clubs and balls provided. $5/person. Proceeds to benefit the Bayfield Community Education Foundation.
2 p.m. – Whitefish Liver Eating Contest at the Pier Plaza
Want to try this Lake Superior delicacy in a competitive eating situation? Come to the Pier Plaza (1 Rittenhouse Ave, right near the Bayfield Pavilion and plunge hole) to enjoy the famous, local tradition. For details call 715-779-3330.
2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Family Tubing at Mt. Ashwabay

3:30 p.m. Ashwabay WinterDASH
Do you have the stamina to survive this winter obstacle course? Climb, crawl, run, jump, and scramble your way to the finish. No equipment needed, just guts. It’s all the fun of a mud run, but winterized for your pleasure. Learn more and register at: www.winterdash.com
4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Legendary Luau at Legendary Waters Resort and Casino
Aloha Chicago will perform, including a Hawaiian-themed buffet for $15 to bring the heat to WinterFEST. This is a 21+ event with Hawaiian Lei Greeting & seating at 4:30pm, Dinner Buffet at 5pm, and the Live Performance at 6pm.
7 p.m. – 9 p.m. – Movie “FROZEN” at the Bayfield Library
Drop off the kids (age 5+) for movie and popsicles
7 p.m. – 10 p.m. WinterBASH at the Morty’s Pub
(108 Rittenhouse Ave, downtown Bayfield)
This is an evening of live music, dancing, and fun! The Lords of Baltimore will kick out great tunes, and the bar and kitchen will serve up local brews and food for guests.
WinterBASH is a benefit for the Ashwabay Outdoor Educational Foundation and will receive a % of the beverage and food. Come on down to Morty’s Pub, meet the new owners and say thank you for supporting Ashwabay Outdoor Educational Foundation.
Sunday, March 4th
Pancakes, breakfast meats and juice for $7, all you can eat, kids 3 and under eat free. Dine at Legendary Waters Resort and Casino with views of the frozen lake. Proceeds from this event will benefit local fire departments.
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Skiing at Mt Ashwabay

10:15 am Run on Water

Complete the 4.5-mile course on the famous ice road across frozen Lake Superior from Bayfield to Madeline Island and back. A family event open to all age and skill levels. 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Big Ravine Hike with the Bayfield Regional Conservancy
Join BRC Conservation Director Erika Lang on this interpretive hike up the Big Raving Trail. Meet at the baseball field at the very top of 4th St (past the school). Parking available at field, Weather permitting. Please wear appropriate footwear for hiking the path.
